Job Summary
Designs PLC, HMI, and advanced technology programs, which involves the selection, design, and installation of all associated hard wiring. Uses computers to interface with PLC’s and all other electrical test equipment of the trade.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
· Works autonomously while designing PLC, HMI, robotic, servo and other controls systems.
· Assists with diagnosing complex electrical circuits and be a resource to customers and engineers.
· Works with leads, supervisors, and technicians to coordinate machine modifications and/or electrical repairs and additions.
· Plans, lays out and installs complex circuits and distribution equipment in accordance with all applicable codes.
· May fabricate and install electrical systems on production equipment while working from drawings and schematics.
· Provides documentation and electrical drawings for new projects as well as existing equipment.
· Controls electrical blueprints (print as well as electronic documents) and assures all prints and programs are up to date.
· Maintains and upgrades the computer floor terminals (software/hardware).
· Performs any other duties as assigned by his Supervisor.
· Takes initiative to respond to any discrepancies. Contacts vendors for technical assistance, parts availability, and prepare Purchase Requisitions, PTO’s, and other types of documentation. Initiates Engineering contacts for problem resolution.
· Takes extraordinary responsibility for safety and housekeeping. Ensures safety measures and compliance to OSHA regulations and plant safety rules. Participates in and leads group efforts and projects.
· Performs other duties as required.
Required Skills
· Must be able to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic blueprints.
· Good interpersonal skills required for indirect supervision and for frequent vendor contacts.
· This position will be issued a cell phone for emergency contact.
· Position also requires extraordinary initiative and self-motivation, as this function must perform with little or no direct supervision.
· Must be computer proficient. Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and knowledge of PLC softwares (Allen-Bradley, Omron, Siemens, Mitsubishi, etc.).
· Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
· Physical Demands: The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
