    Role: Education Director Compensation: Part time, 20 hours per week, $31 hourly* *The intent is for this role to grow into a full time position by summer 2024. Reports to: Executive Director

    The Education Director designs and implements PVTC’s educational programs for participants ranging from 3 to 103. These bold, artistically excellent classes and workshops invite artistic expression and foster creative development and valuable life skills. The Education Director will facilitate an overall scope in sequence that shapes the long-term growth and development of individuals, as they find deeper connection both to self and humanity, becoming more compassionate, informed, and empowered world citizens.

    Responsibilities Program Direction

    Foster a sense of passion and joy for the arts that includes all and engages participants’ imaginations through exploration.

    Collaborate with leadership to select themes, design curriculum, and secure he rights for scripts for after school classes, camps, and adult programs that align with PVTC’s mission and, when appropriate, tie into themes being explored on the MainStage.

    In collaboration with PVTC’s Executive Director, hire, train, and mentor teaching artists in the implementation of PVTC’s programs and creative growth path.

    Foster long-term relationships with students and families, and where possible, support the development of a creative portfolio to showcase growth as students reach new heights as artists.

    Oversee program logistics and collaborate efficiently with administrative staff to manage scheduling, marketing, registration, enrollment records, program communication, and program feedback and evaluation.

    Teaching & Directing

    Teach a significant number of classes in our after school conservatory and produce our summer camp programming.

    During the summer, take on creative roles to support camp facilitation which may include director, choreographer, music director, designer, or acting instructor.

    Innovation

    Advocate for and create practical opportunities to further our IDEA commitment to create an artistic space where all feel welcome, regardless of age, race, ethnicity, creed, disability, financial circumstance, gender identity, or sexual orientation

    In collaboration with PVTC’s Executive Director, develop and launch our Teaching Artist Training Program and facilitate practicum opportunities for interns high school and up

    In collaboration with PVTC’s Executive Director and key partners (such as our host campus Valley Presbyterian Church) explore opportunities and curate arts education opportunities for adults

    Innovate and explore new opportunities to carry out PVTC’s mission by exposing students to artistic works, taking them on field trips, and offering a diverse range of classes and workshops

    Support PVTC’s fundraising efforts, including but not limited to: annual appeals; special events; engaging with and speaking to potential donors

    Collaborate with the leadership team in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs for the year

    Skills

    An independent leader with clear vision who also values collaboration

    Believes in the potential of young people and that creativity is available to all

    Excellent and timely communication skills

    Directorial background in both plays and musicals

    Capacity to teach a variety of theatre skills and techniques (acting, improvisation, dance, voice, clowning, design of any type, etc. and/or a willingness to learn new skills)

    Experience producing productions and the ability to unite a production through collaboration with designers, technicians, and actors

    Experience hiring, managing, and training educators

    Experience visioning, building, and refining a program

    Understanding of educational pedagogy

    Experience directing students and/or teaching theatre, preferably ranging in age from Pre-K through adult

    Programs Portola Valley Theatre Conservatory boasts a robust Children’s & Youth Conservatory where we offer after school classes, outreach opportunities, summer camp productions, workshops, and hands-on internships. We also produce MainStage productions featuring adult & intergenerational casts.
