Program Specific Details * This is an in-person position for an in-class teacher's assistant at PS 68, located at 1625 Forest Ave, Staten Island, NY 10302. We are looking for someone to provide in classroom support for teachers and work with students in small group (5:1) sessions. Students will need to receive support in grades 3rd-5th grade math and ELA. The 3rd-5th grade material will be provided by the school. This program is scheduled to run three days a week, Tuesday through Thursday from 9am to 1:20pm. The specific days of the week will be confirmed with the candidate during an interview. This program is scheduled to begin April 17th and is expected to run until June 7th, 2023. The ideal candidate should be well versed in elementary school level math and ELA, and have either cleared PETS (Personal Eligibility Tracking System) through the New York City Department of Education or be willing to get clearance upon hire. Responsibilities * Work closely with 3rd-5th grade students in small groups on skill acquisition in math, reading, and writing * Conduct weekly progress reports for each student and share outcomes with your Education Champion supervisor * Join the active PRACTICE Community and develop lasting relationships with students, teachers, faculty, and PRACTICE staff. * Enhance your own teaching abilities and professional skills by attending learning seminars offered by PRACTICE throughout the year. Required Skills/Abilities * Outstanding communication skills * Strong planning and organizational skills * Proficiency in increasing student engagement * Effective classroom management and ability to support Title 1 schools and students * Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software Experience * Teaching, mentoring or tutoring experience is preferred * Knowledge of the NYC education system is preferred Education and Certification(s) * An Associate's degree from an accredited college/university; higher education a plus Compensation & Benefits A starting pay rate of $20/hrs with (the ability to apply for raises based off of your performance during programs). As you grow in your Education Champion role, you will have the possibility (if interested) to move up to a Supervisor position (starting $23/hrs) or even apply for one of our PT or FT staff positions.
