    DEPARTMENT:  Cardiovascular Operating Room

The cardiovascular operating room is a complex environment in which highly trained specialists interact with each other using sophisticated equipment to care for patients with severe cardiac and vascular diseases.  The operating rooms are specially designed and equipped for heart patient's complex needs.  They are separate from the general surgical operating rooms because cardiac and vascular patients require specialized care.  The hybrid cardiovascular surgical suites are used for Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedures, repair of abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysms without an open incision (EVAR and TEVAR), all endovascular procedures, and open heart surgery if necessary.  The hybrid suites enable advanced diagnostic imaging and surgical procedures to be performed simultaneously in the same room.  They also are designed and intended for either "open" or "closed" procedures, or both.

At McLeod Health, our team of heart surgeons perform "open heart" surgical procedures to either correct an acquired defect or congenital defects.  During surgery they use the latest techniques in heart valve repair/replacement, repair erratic heart rhythms, and perform heart bypass surgery.  Our vascular surgeons treat diseases of the arteries and veins.  McLeod Heart and Vascular Institute represents a key part of our region's largest and most honored healthcare team.
