  • Responsibilities
    1. Maintains a professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers in accordance with our Service Excellence Standards and Core Values.

    3. Able to maintain and troubleshoot pharmacy printers, copier, and fax machine (change paper and ink/ribbon, reset printers, etc.)
    4. Understands the components of the Patient Medication Profile and uses this information for problem resolution.
    5. Understands the functions of pharmacy software and is able to assist in resolving medication-related issues.
    6. Uses computer system to maintain accuracy of medication accuracy of medication charges, charging for dispensed medications and crediting medications that are returned to the pharmacy. Enters correct date of service for all charges/credits.
    7. Assist the Pharmacist in the Operation of the Inpatient Drug Distribution System.
    8. Delivery/Security of Medications including refilling ADCs and entering correct expiration date.
    9. Works well with others and as a part of a team.
    10. Maintains Organization and Cleanliness of Work Environment.
    11. Knows medications on audit high risk medication list and always refers these meds to a pharmacist for checking per pharmacy protocol.
    12. Utilizes pharmacy technology to compound, prepack and barcode medications for dispensing to patients.
    13. Accurately and securely pulls and refills controlled substances.
    14. Uses sterile technique and follows current USP guidelines and procedures for preparing IV admixtures, including hazardous drugs upon proper training.
    15. Technician Checking: SC State Certified Technicians Only
    16. Accurately checks authorized medications pulled by other technicians for refill of automated dispensing cabinets or refill of patient medication orders via daily cart fill.
    17. Accurately checks authorized premixed IVs and mini-bag plus medications pulled by other technicians for refill of patient IV orders via IV batch processing.
    18. Demonstrates accuracy on technician checking competency.

     

    Required Skills

    Pharmacy Technician will work under the direct supervision of the licensed pharmacists. The technician will assist in the filling of patient’s medications, is responsible for the accurate fill and delivery of medications for the automated medication dispensing machines, compound sterile and non-sterile preparations using best pharmaceutical practices and techniques, ensure that patient billing is accurate by charging and crediting, utilize multiple computerized programs and technical equipment for the functions listed above and several other functions, perform medication distribution to our patients via rounding, assist in maintaining pharmacy inventory, and restock various medication carts, kits and boxes. The technician will also provide professional, courteous, and efficient customer service to our nursing staff and all others during both phone calls and person-to-person interactions.

    WORK/TRAINING SCHEDULE:

    3rd shift schedule = 9:30pm to 8:00am; Monday - Sunday; working 7 days / 7 days off.  Must be available to train 40 hours per week between 6:00am - 8:30pm (8 hour shifts). Length of training period to be determined.   Will work full-time hours during the 12-week training period but will only be offered full-time status including benefits package at the successful completion of that training. 

     

    DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

    Inpatient Pharmacy - Provides 24-hour Pharmacy services for our inpatients.

    Skills Required

     

    EDUCATION

    Minimum of a High school diploma/GED equivalent from an accredited school or successful completion of WIN testing or completion of McLeod approved transition to work program. 

    South Carolina Pharmacy Technician registration required.

    Must have a good background in mathematics, have good communication skills, and the ability to work well with others in a busy environment. 

    Computer skills as well as typing skills are also needed. 

     

    EXPERIENCE REQUIRED At least 6 months experience as a Pharmacy Technician (or similar job experience preferred), and have exhibited a high degree of dependability, flexibility and competency in previous work performance.  The Pharmacy Technician must pass a competency test (>75%) within their 6 month probationary period.
