    11. Provide drug information, drug therapy recommendations, and education to physicians, nurses, patients, pharmacy staff, pharmacy residents and students related to assigned clinical areas.
    12. Reporting of adverse drug events (ADE) within assigned clinical areas.
    13. Development of department educational/monitoring tools and in-services to promote continued growth of clinical pharmacy services and up to date practice as it pertains assigned clinical areas.
    14. Assist with protocol development as necessary related to assigned clinical areas.
    15. Participate in hospital committees related to assigned clinical areas where pharmacy involvement is needed.
    16. Review appropriate use of medications to include optimization of use and cost considerations.
    17. Contribute to the continued development of the practice of the profession of pharmacy.

    Required Skills

    JOB DESCRIPTION 

    The Clinical Specialist works primarily in an integrated decentralized/operations pharmacy model providing comprehensive clinical pharmacy services including pharmacokinetics (Aminoglycosides/Vancomycin), drug dosing consultations, and rounding with the pediatric Hospitalist medical team.  The Clinical Specialist also spends a portion of their time in the Pediatric Satellite Pharmacy performing medication order entry and review, supervising pharmacy technicians, and ensuring timely and accurate medication delivery in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the hospital and pharmacy.  He/She provides drug information, drug therapy recommendations, and education for Neonatologists/pediatric Hospitalists/pediatric Intensivists/obstetrician-gynecologists, family medicine residents, nurses, patients, and the pharmacy staff.  The Clinical Specialist participates on a variety of hospital clinical committees including: Department of Pediatrics and NICU, Department of OB/GYN, Medication Safety, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, and Clinical Effectiveness Committees.  This includes reviewing literature and preparing and giving presentations as needed.  He/She also assists with precepting pharmacy students and residents and serves on the Residency Advisory Council.  He/She should be knowledgeable in pediatric/neonatal/women’s health medication pharmacotherapy and exhibit the clinical and professional skills to positively interact with other health care practitioners.  In addition, the Clinical Specialist works as a team member with a positive attitude when interacting with department employees, students, and other hospital personnel and contributes to the development of the practice of the profession.  The Clinical Specialist is responsible for maintaining up to date knowledge in their area of practice.

     

    WORK SHIFT

    Full time. Day shift, every third weekend

     

    QUALIFICATIONS /TRAINING:

    PGY1 residency or equivalent clinical hospital experience required

    PGY2 residency in Pediatrics and / or Neonatology preferred

    Ability to work independently, required 

     

    LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATIONS/EDUCATION:

    Baccalaureate degree or PharmD Degree from an accredited school of pharmacy, required

    Current, unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in the state of South Carolina

    Provides 24-hour clinical and distributive Pharmacy services for our inpatient population.  Use of an integrated decentralized/operations pharmacy model facilitates close collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals, emphasizing the concept of pharmaceutical care.
