Job Description
An LVN Behavioral Health, also known as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in Behavioral Health, plays a critical role in providing nursing care and support to individuals receiving treatment for behavioral and mental health conditions. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, LVN Behavioral Health professionals ensure the safety, well-being, and comfort of patients in a behavioral health setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' mental and emotional well-being. Collect and document relevant data, including patient history, current symptoms, and potential risks.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments, ensuring compliance with medication schedules and closely monitoring for side effects or adverse reactions.
- Implement therapeutic interventions as directed by the treatment team to manage and address behavioral and emotional issues. Assist in de-escalation and crisis intervention when necessary.
- Provide emotional support and actively engage with patients to establish rapport and trust. Encourage participation in therapy and counseling sessions.
- Collaborate closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other members of the treatment team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Ensure the safety and security of patients by conducting safety checks, monitoring for signs of self-harm or harm to others, and responding to emergencies promptly.
- Educate patients and their families on mental health conditions, treatment options, coping strategies, and relapse prevention. Provide guidance on medication management and potential side effects.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including assessments, interventions, and progress notes. Adhere to confidentiality and privacy regulations.
- Be prepared to respond to crisis situations and assist in the implementation of restraint or seclusion protocols when necessary, ensuring patient and staff safety.
- Collaborate with the treatment team to develop discharge and reintegration plans, ensuring that patients have appropriate follow-up care and support.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to the facility's policies and procedures for delivering high-quality behavioral healthcare.
Qualifications:
- Valid LVN license in the state of California.
- Previous experience in behavioral health or psychiatric nursing is preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Empathy and compassion for individuals dealing with mental health challenges.
- Crisis intervention and de-escalation training is a plus.
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and potentially high-stress environment.
Salary: $35.00 - $37.00 per hour
