Job Description
An LVN Med/Surg, also known as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in the Medical/Surgical unit, is a critical member of the healthcare team responsible for providing nursing care to patients admitted to medical and surgical units. This role involves a wide range of nursing responsibilities, including patient assessment, medication administration, wound care, and patient education, to ensure the well-being and recovery of patients during their hospital stay.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive physical assessments of patients upon admission and throughout their hospital stay. Monitor vital signs, pain levels, and overall health status. Recognize and report any significant changes promptly.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments, ensuring accurate dosage, timing, and patient education regarding medications and potential side effects.
- Perform wound care, dressing changes, and surgical site assessments as needed. Monitor postoperative patients for signs of infection or complications.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans for patients. Ensure continuity of care by communicating patient needs and progress.
- Educate patients and their families on their medical conditions, treatments, and post-discharge care instructions. Provide guidance on managing chronic conditions and adopting healthy lifestyles.
- Administer IV medications, fluids, and blood products, monitoring IV sites for complications and maintaining accurate records.
- Maintain detailed and accurate patient records, including assessments, interventions, and progress notes. Adhere to hospital policies and legal requirements for recordkeeping.
- Follow established infection control protocols to prevent the spread of infections within the unit. Implement isolation precautions as necessary.
- Work closely with registered nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care. Communicate changes in patient status or concerns promptly.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and performance improvement projects to enhance patient care and safety.
Qualifications:
- Valid LVN license in the state of California.
- Previous experience in a medical/surgical unit or a similar healthcare setting is preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic healthcare environment.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Compensation:
- Total Shift Pay: $487.00
- Gross Hourly Wage: $41.00
- 12 Hour Shift
