    Job description

    An EKG Tech, or Electrocardiogram Technician, is a healthcare professional responsible for performing electrocardiograms (EKGs) to record and analyze the electrical activity of a patient's heart. This crucial diagnostic procedure helps healthcare providers identify cardiac abnormalities and assist in patient care and treatment decisions.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Perform electrocardiograms (EKGs) on patients by attaching electrodes to specific areas of the body to record the electrical impulses of the heart.

    Prepare patients for EKG procedures, ensuring they are comfortable and properly positioned. Explain the procedure to alleviate any anxiety or concerns.

    Operate EKG machines and related equipment, ensuring they are calibrated correctly and functioning properly. Troubleshoot equipment issues as needed.

    Accurately place electrodes on the patient's chest, limbs, and other specified locations to obtain clear and accurate EKG readings.

    Monitor EKG recordings in real-time, identifying any irregularities or artifacts that may affect the quality of the data.

    Analyze EKG tracings for signs of cardiac abnormalities, such as arrhythmias, conduction disorders, or ischemic changes. Highlight significant findings for healthcare providers.

    Maintain detailed and accurate records of EKG results, including patient information, technical details, and any observed abnormalities.

    Follow safety protocols and infection control measures to ensure the safety and well-being of patients during EKG procedures.

    Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely communication of critical findings and assist in patient care decisions.

    Provide basic information to patients regarding the purpose of the EKG, the procedure itself, and what to expect during and after the test.

    Perform routine maintenance on EKG equipment, including cleaning and ensuring proper storage.

    Qualifications:

    • Certification as an EKG Technician or eligibility for certification.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification may be required.
    • Proficiency in operating EKG machines and related technology.
    • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accuracy in recordings.
    • Excellent communication skills and patient interaction.
    • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

    Salary: $28.00 - $30.00 per hour
