    Job Description

    An LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse) in the DOU (Direct Observation Unit) plays a crucial role in providing nursing care and support to patients who require immediate medical attention due to injuries, illnesses, or life-threatening conditions. LVNs in the work alongside a multidisciplinary team to assess, treat, and stabilize patients during critical situations.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Patient Assessment: Conduct rapid and comprehensive assessments of patients, including vital signs, medical history, and the nature and severity of their condition or injury.

    Triage: Assist in the triage process to prioritize patient care based on the urgency of their medical needs. Identify critical patients who require immediate attention.

    Emergency Procedures: Administer emergency medical treatments and interventions as directed by physicians and registered nurses. This may include wound care, medication administration, and airway management.

    Intravenous (IV) Therapy: Start and maintain IV lines, administer fluids, medications, and blood products, and monitor IV sites for complications.

    Patient Monitoring: Continuously monitor patients' vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and oxygen levels. Recognize and respond to changes in patient conditions promptly.

    Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including assessments, interventions, and progress notes. Adhere to hospital charting standards and legal requirements.

    Patient Education: Provide patients and their families with information about their conditions, treatments, and what to expect during their ED visit.

    Collaboration: Collaborate closely with physicians, registered nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care and timely interventions.

    Medication Management: Administer prescribed medications and treatments, following established protocols and documenting medication administration accurately.

    Patient Safety: Implement safety measures and infection control protocols to maintain a safe environment .

    Emergency Response: Be prepared to assist in resuscitation efforts during cardiac arrests and other life-threatening emergencies.

    Discharge Planning: Assist in the preparation of patients for discharge or transfer, ensuring they receive appropriate follow-up care and instructions.

    Qualifications:

    • Valid LVN license in the state of employment.
    • Previous experience in an emergency department or critical care setting is preferred.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress situations.
    • Critical thinking skills and the ability to make rapid decisions.
    • Physical stamina and the ability to work long shifts, including nights and weekends.

    Compensation:

    • Total Shift Pay: $487.00
    • Gross Hourly Wage: $41.00
    • 12 Hour Shift
