Job Description:
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) are healthcare professionals who play a critical role in providing initial care to patients in emergency situations. They respond to 911 calls, assess patients, provide basic medical treatment, and transport patients to medical facilities when necessary. EMTs are essential members of the pre-hospital emergency medical care team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond promptly to 911 calls and provide immediate medical care to patients at the scene of accidents, injuries, or medical emergencies.
- Assess patients' conditions by obtaining medical histories and conducting physical examinations to determine the extent of injuries or illnesses.
- Administer basic life support interventions, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), control of bleeding, and splinting fractures.
- Stabilize patients' conditions through interventions such as bandaging wounds, administering oxygen, and managing airways to ensure proper breathing.
- Safely transport patients to hospitals or medical facilities, using appropriate medical equipment and following established protocols.
- Maintain effective communication with dispatchers, healthcare facilities, and other emergency personnel to provide accurate information and coordinate patient care.
- Operate and maintain emergency medical equipment and devices, including defibrillators, oxygen delivery systems, and stretchers.
- Complete detailed patient care reports (PCRs) documenting patient information, medical assessments, interventions, and transport details.
- Follow infection control protocols to protect both patients and healthcare providers from potential infectious diseases.
- Stay current with developments in emergency medical care, attend training sessions, and maintain required certifications.
Qualifications:
- Valid EMT certification in California.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions in high-stress situations.
- Physical stamina and the ability to lift and carry patients as needed.
- Clean driving record and valid driver's license.
Salary: $28.00 - $30.00 per hour
