JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: PV Performance Technician
REPORTS TO: Manager, Field Operations
FLSA STATUS: Salaried/Exempt
Position Summary
The PV Performance Technician is responsible for monitoring, testing, and troubleshooting C &I PV solar systems to ensure optimal energy production. The role focuses on hands-on verification of system performance, SCADA/data analysis, and resolving technical issues in collaboration with commissioning and O&M teams. This is a non-degree, experience-focused role emphasizing field performance and technical problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor PV system performance using SCADA/DAS platforms and on-site testing
- Identify and troubleshoot underperformance, inverter alarms, and system faults
- Conduct periodic inspections of modules, inverters, combiner boxes, and AC systems
- Document findings, corrective actions, and performance metrics
- Support commissioning and O &M teams with system start-up, handoff, and troubleshooting
- Validate production data against expected performance (PR, energy yield)
- Assist in preventive maintenance and operational optimization
Required Qualifications
- 2–5 years experience in PV commissioning, operations, or electrical/solar systems
- Strong troubleshooting skills for inverters, strings, and monitoring systems
- Experience with SCADA/DAS, PV monitoring software, and data validation
- Basic understanding of PV system electrical design, NEC 690 & 705, and grounding/protection
Preferred Qualifications
- NABCEP PV Installation Professional or equivalent certification
- Experience with portfolio-level performance analysis
- Exposure to C &I rooftop, canopy, or small ground-mount systems
Physical & Travel Requirements
- Outdoor work under various weather conditions
- Ability to access rooftops, electrical rooms, and climb ladders
- Travel up to 50%-75% depending on project assignments
