    Summary

    Inpatient Coder Position: Level 1

    The position is a contract to hire opportunity. Candidate must live in Christus Approved States. (Texas,Louisiana, Arkansas, Georgia, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Nevada (send state with submission)) 

    PLEASE NOTE:

    Once the candidate is shortlisted for interview, he/she needs to go through a coding assessment.

    Passing score is 90% or higher.

    Candidate should have access to coding reference materials, ENCODER, guidelines, and other tools available while taking the assessment. With out these references, candidates will likely NOT receive a passing score. Please do not submit candidates who do not fit this criteria.

    THIS IS A TIMED TEST – Information will be sent via email with all the details of the assessment.

    Roles & Responsibilities

    Contract coders must be able to work independently in a remote setting, with little supervision 

    High speed internet is required – Minimum speed requirements of 10Mbps download and 1Mbps upload. High speed internet connections are not allowed via satellite. 

    Vendor Auditor MUST complete Prebill audits & Monthly audits which consist of 3% of volume per month and demonstrate a minimum of 95% accuracy. Based on typical coder volume 3% would be 6-10 charts per month. 

    Coder or Vendor must provide equipment and internet, additional information will be provided. 

    Remote capability – Contract coders must have their own computer equipment 

    After orientation and prebill review, coders may work a flexible schedule during Business hours (6am to 5pm CST). Schedule must be approved by Manager 

    Orientation is done via Skype – (coder never required to work on site) 

    Prefer coders with experience with Meditech, 3M, One Content, Kronos, Epic 

    Submit candidates that are temp to perm and live in a Christus approved state. 

    Indicate on Non-Clinical Submission Cover sheet- State coder resides in 

    If selecting a large group of coders,prefer to on-board as a group to limit orientation sessions 

    Require Contract coders to have at least one coding credential;AHIMA-RHIA,RHIT,CCS,CCA,AAPC- CPC (send certification with submission) 

    No offshore coders allowed (Domestic/US based only) 

    There is a potential that contract coders would be assigned to different regions/facilities 

    Contract coders will be required to code high $$accounts, Trauma, Highly skilled Expert Coders 

    Christus Internal coding assessment required for onboarding – Must pass with 90% accuracy 

    If the coder passes the assessment, set up a phone interview as next steps

    Contract coders are encouraged to attend Christus coding monthly round-tables and section meetings 

    MCI request will be submitted when compliance is completed 

    All coders need to maintain a 95% or > coding accuracy

    Preferred Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    Do NOT submit coders with the following experience: Physical office billing, Medical billing, Profee, etc.

    Christus needs Inpatient coders with HOSPITAL (Acute Care) IC-10 experience. Client is looking for well rounded acute care coder.

    At least 2-3 years experience as Inpatient Coders

    High Level or surgery cases coding experience to include trauma and cardiac.

    Spohn/Santa Rosa –The candidate must have experience with Level 1 trauma,.

    Must be AHIMA -RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCA, AAPC- CPC certified (send certification with submission)

    Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

    Experience: 3-5 years coding experience Hospital based.

    Type of hospitals IP acute care

    Chart type / Specialties: IP

    EMR: One Content

    Encoder: 3M Encoder

    CAC: Optum

    Production expectations: 2/hour

    Quality expectations: 95% or >
