Education and Experience/Skills:
*BS in Mechanical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering Technology
*5+ years of product design/value engineering experience; or equivalent
combination of education and experience.
*Project management experience is important as the ideal candidate for
this role will be managing 15 to 20 projects simultaneously.
*The ability to use 80/20 thought processes to prioritize projects is
essential.
*The individual must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with
confidence at all levels of the organization.
*The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of
engineering design and manufacturing fundamentals and be able to seek
out, recognize and implement product value improvements on their own
and by use of product tear down events and supplier workshops.
*This individual must be able to react quickly, be flexible to changing direction and have a sense of urgency to complete tasks on time.
*The successful candidate will have experience with, some knowledge of
or the willingness to learn more about the following manufacturing
processes: machining, stamping, forging, brass/zinc/aluminum casting,
hydroforming, welding (laser/TIG/MIG), thread specifications, cold
forming, buffing, plating, coating, physical vapor deposition, plastic
injection molding, elastomers, valves/waterways, component packaging
and product assembly.
*Experience with ERP systems (SAP), CAD systems (Creo) and data storage
systems (Teamcenter and Smartsheet) is a plus.
*Experience with PPAP, assembly pilot runs and design reviews is
preferred.

Responsibilities:
*Seeks out and implements product changes to reduce product costs,
reduce product complexity and improve value to the customer
*Leads design coordination and control for new products and product
changes
*Leads design verification and validation for new products and product
changes
*Executes disposition of new parts and changed parts through pilot runs,
PPAP, and deviations
*Participates in and drives value management activities (teardowns,
supplier workshops, etc.) to reduce direct material product costs, reduce
product complexity and add value
*Participates on cross-functional Commodity Teams to primarily reduce
product costs but also to assist with other Commodity Team objectives
*Flexible work environment (Remote work from home opportunities)
*Travel both international and domestic required approximately 10% but
currently limited based on current travel restrictions and guidelines
provided by the executive leadership team.
The Staff Value Management Engineer seeks out, designs, develops and implements product changes to reduce direct material product costs and improve the value proposition of the customer. The position leads or participates in Value Management activities (product tear downs, supplier workshops, fact based negotiations, should costing etc.) and takes responsibility and control for all aspects of design, verification & validation testing and assembly pilot runs on product change implementations.
Additonal Details:
This person teams with functional areas such as Marketing, Sales, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and the China office as well as with external suppliers worldwide to identify and achieve value management goals. The position holder is considered to be self-motivated, self-sufficient, competent and able to lead projects appropriate to his/her assignments. The Staff Value Management Engineer reports to the Leader of Value Management.
The overall Engineering/Quality Department has approximately 100 employees. Value management activities, in close coordination with Purchasing, drive annual cost reductions in the $15 – $20 million range with the value management engineer’s main responsibility to support commodity team direct material cost savings activities. This specific role would focus on all of the metals commodity teams but may also have opportunities to work on.
