Pod 1: Film Club & Programming

We are excited to announce our new paid internship program at Filmmakers Ranch.

This is not a token internship. It is not a vague “come hang around and see what happens” situation. And it is definitely not unpaid.

This is a paid, part-time internship for people who want to be part of building one of the most exciting creative spaces in Oklahoma from the inside out. That means real shifts, real responsibilities, real expectations, and real opportunities to make your mark.

At Filmmakers Ranch, interns help shape the atmosphere of our front reception and café — the front door to the Ranch and the social heartbeat of the campus — while also going deep in one specialist area of the business that fits their interests and field of study.

The idea is simple: you will work, you will learn, you will contribute, and you will leave having actually helped build something.

We split interns into one of seven specialist pods , each designed around a different part of the Filmmakers Ranch ecosystem. Some interns may be drawn to events. Some to film programming. Some to business development. Some to the land itself. But wherever you are placed, the goal is the same: to combine practical responsibility with meaningful creative experience inside a place that feels ambitious, welcoming, stylish, and alive.

This application is for Pod 1: Film Club & Programming.

Pod 1: Film Club & Programming

    Purpose
Make Filmmakers Ranch the place Oklahoma creatives actually show up to and grow by building a consistent, high-taste screening culture.

This pod curates films like a tiny festival with a point of view. It helps turn our screening room and café projector into a true living room for the local film community — the kind of place where actors, filmmakers, crew, students, and film lovers gather not because they have to, but because they genuinely want to be there.

The goal is to create film nights that feel smart without being stiff, welcoming without being bland, and memorable enough that people start building them into their lives.

Think less dusty film society, more:
a beautifully curated night at a creative clubhouse where someone discovers their new favorite filmmaker, has a conversation that changes the way they think about performance, and leaves already planning to come back next week.

This pod helps build that feeling.

You might help program a cult classic, a future classic, an overlooked gem, or a film that sparks the exact kind of conversation our community needs. You might help shape the room, the flow, the energy, the discussion, the welcome, and the details that make an evening feel intentional rather than thrown together. You might help turn a screening into a ritual — something people talk about, look forward to, and bring friends to.

Done well, this pod does more than show movies.
It builds taste. It builds community. It builds culture.

    What the role looks like

This is a part-time paid internship with scheduled shifts. We expect 4 shift per week between 4 & 6 hours and shifts are available 7-days per week between 7.30am-9.30pm.

Interns will typically split their time between:

    Front-of-house / café shifts
Helping shape the feel of the Ranch day to day by supporting reception, café flow, guest experience, and the overall warmth and energy of the space.

    Pod-specific shifts and responsibilities
Working inside Film Club & Programming to help research, curate, organize, support, and grow screenings and film-centered events.

This means the role combines hospitality, culture-building, coordination, and execution. You are not just observing. You are helping make the machine run.

Responsibilities in this pod may include:

    • Assisting with film selection and themed programming

    • Researching titles, filmmakers, and screening ideas

    • Helping schedule and organize screening nights

    • Supporting event setup and audience flow

    • Helping create a warm, stylish, welcoming atmosphere

    • Assisting with post-screening conversations and community discussion

    • Coordinating with front-of-house and café operations so the experience feels seamless

    • Helping promote events and grow attendance over time

    • Contributing ideas that make the program feel fresh, distinctive, and worth showing up for

    Who this is for

This is for someone who loves film and also understands that great experiences do not happen by accident.

You may be a film student, aspiring producer, programmer, writer, actor, director, curator, marketer, or someone with excellent taste and a real instinct for atmosphere. You might love cinema, but also love spaces, people, events, hosting, and the invisible details that make something feel special.

You do not need to know everything. But you do need to bring energy, initiative, curiosity, follow-through, and the willingness to be useful.

Because this is a paid internship, we are looking for people who are excited not just by the idea of the Ranch, but by being dependable within it. That means showing up on time, handling responsibility well, working assigned shifts, and taking pride in helping create an experience that feels polished, alive, and genuinely memorable.

    Why this is special

Filmmakers Ranch is not trying to feel corporate, generic, or overpackaged. We are building something with character.

A place where the coffee bar matters.
    Where the screening room matters.
    Where the grounds matter.
Where a conversation after a film can matter just as much as the film itself.

This internship is a chance to be inside that world while it is being shaped.

It is for people who want more than a line on a résumé. It is for people who want stories, responsibility, taste, momentum, relationships, and the feeling of being part of something that has its own identity.

You will not be stuck at the edges. You will be in it.
