Summary:
Munson Healthcare is seeking a committed and compassionate Hospice and Palliative Medicine APP (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our expanding palliative care team in Traverse City, Michigan. This is an exceptional opportunity for an advanced practice provider with a strong work ethic and dedication to clinical excellence in inpatient palliative medicine. The ideal candidate will join a team of experienced, collaborative, and proactive healthcare providers, clinicians, and support staff dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to the patients and families living with complex, serious illness.
Position Duties/Highlights Include:
Full-time position
Monday – Friday schedule
36 hours of direct patient care per week
Provide expert management of complex symptoms in patients with serious, life-threatening, and life-limiting illnesses, including pain, dyspnea, nausea, anxiety, and depression
Deliver meticulous, evidence-based symptom control with attention to patient comfort and quality of life
Engage in clear, compassionate, and effective communication with patients and families regarding serious illness, prognosis, goals of care, and treatment preferences
Collaborate within an interdisciplinary team to support holistic patient care, including psychosocial and emotional needs
Coordinate complex care across healthcare settings, ensuring continuity and alignment with patient goals
Standard Qualifications:
Education / Training:
Certification, Licensure, Registration:
State of Michigan Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license required
Active DEA registration required, with the ability to prescribe controlled substances in accordance with federal and state regulations
Core Competencies:
Strong fund of knowledge in managing complex symptoms associated with serious illness
Foundational expertise in the management of pain, shortness of breath, nausea, and mood-related symptoms including anxiety and depression
Demonstrated skill in serious illness communication with patients and families
Ability to coordinate complex, multidisciplinary care within healthcare systems
