    Job Description

    As a Palm Springs Disposal Services (PSDS) team member, the “Recycling Ambassadors” role serves as a nexus between the community and State waste & recycling regulations. As an ambassador, you will be tasked with educating the local community, including residents & commercial business owners in achieving State and local waste guidelines. The successful candidate must have a helpful and courteous demeanor that would be recognized as a credible partner in promoting sound waste and recycling efforts.

    The management of waste and recycling is a critical part of our environmental responsibility. The role requires an individual who is both socially and environmentally conscious and is determined to drive a positive result. The role requires an individual who is comfortable splitting their time between a workstation and working in an outdoor environment where waste & recycling is generated, collected and discarded. The successful candidate must also have the ability to recognize a customer’s waste needs while at the same time creating successful compliance results.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – Including but not limited to:

    The successful candidate will need to be creative during the development process as their duties and responsibilities are shaped. The Recycling Ambassador must be eager and flexible with all manner of duties and responsibilities that include but are not limited to:

    Hands-on reviews and assessments of waste materials generated and discarded on assigned routes or waste materials gathered in collection vehicles to perform waste evaluations on PSDS facility premises.

    Gather, record and maintain data results of waste audits and waste evaluations for reporting purposes and documenting of each waste generators’ performance.

    Conduct field visits, community outreach, provide educational material, guidance, and knowledge to customers that achieve the required compliance.

    Input data gathered on a daily and weekly basis to provide insight on overall community performance.

    Other duties as required or assigned

    KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

    Ability to quickly learn waste and recycling terminologies with strong retention.

    Familiarity with the local Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs major throughfares and streets to navigate safely and quickly access assigned areas.

    Computer literate including Windows, Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word along with the ability to quickly learn customer database software systems and processes.

    Ability to work independently and responsibly to effectively discharge the duties of their role both in the office and out in the field.

    Soft natured, welcoming personality and written communication skills (Bilingual ENG/SPA preferred)

    Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a self-directed manner while also following direction provided to meet specific deadlines and goals.

    Supporting PSDS Operations Department with the execution of their duties on an as needed basis.

    Must be able to work outdoors, walking upstairs, climbing steps, hills, and ramps as needed

    Able to work at a computer terminal for extended periods

    Able to lift maximum of 50lbs
