  • Responsibilities

    Health & Safety Officer – Key Responsibilities:

    -Oversees the planning, designing, policy development, implementation, and management of programs addressing industrial hygiene concerns, hazardous materials issues for the entire company which includes the corporate headquarters in Wheeling, Morgantown Facility, Pittsburgh Facility, and any other areas being operated by Panhandle Cleaning & Restoration.

    -Meets with staff to develop goals, provide direction and oversee their independent performance and functions of their position.

    -Provides guidance and supervision to staff regarding accurate investigation, audits, inspections, etc.

    -Provide reports to company presidents as necessary; stays current with health and safety issues to assure professional staff maintain a high level of proficiency and are aware of emerging regulatory issues.

    -Develops and conducts training programs as required to support the training mission of EHS; educates and communicates with Panhandle personnel, regulatory and emergency response agencies as necessary to resolve immediate and potential long-term emergency situations.

    -Maintain and establish relationships with persons and organizations within and external to Panhandle with appropriate health and safety professionals in local, state, federal, industrial, and academic institutions to bench mark Panhandle health and safety related policies.

    -Writing internal health and safety policies/strategies and ensuring coordination to create/manage consistent contractor safety policies.

    -Making presentations to groups of employees/managers

    -Develop, implement, maintain, and supervise safety programs -Implement and coordinate Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) activities

    -Conduct and monitor accident investigation, accident prevention programs, claim processing, preparation of reports, record keeping and rehabilitation programs

    -Perform safety inspections in order to identify potentially hazardous conditions

    -Ensure proper follow-through on all reportable accidents to determine safety improvements

    -Educate employees and management regarding assigned areas of responsibility and direct recommendations for solving safety issues

    -Administer drug-testing training, policies and procedures

    -Complete all customer required safety pre-qualification packets on an as-needed basis

    -Liaison with professional and regulatory organizations in the safety and environmental field
