    Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking a Diversity & Inclusion Coordinator in the Diversity & Inclusion department under  direction of the Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer and Director of Diversity & Inclusion, and direct supervision of the Diversity & Inclusion Managers.

    The position can reside in the Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York or Washington, DC office and will be responsible for providing administrative and logistical support to the firm’s diversity and inclusion programs, initiatives, committees and groups. The Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator is expected to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to the firm’s attorneys, advisors and staff, producing quality work product, and maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement.  

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION INCLUDE:

    • Provide administrative and program support related to internal and external diversity and inclusion initiatives.
    • Attend firmwide and office committee, council and group meetings as necessary and prepare agendas and summaries for circulation at the direction of the Chief Officer and/or Director.
    • Provide support for the completion and submission of diversity-related statistical information for firmwide reports, RFPs, committee meetings, and other requests, as needed, liaising with other departments on necessary data, information and historical materials.
    • Assist the Diversity & Inclusion team with updating and maintaining the firm’s internal Diversity & Inclusion portal page, and the internal portal pages for the firmwide resource groups (FRG) and diversity-related content on the external Akin Gump website.
    • Provide logistical support to the various local office Diversity & Inclusion Councils and FRGs (e.g., invitations, meeting agendas, preparation of handout materials, event follow-up, etc.).
    • Coordinate and implement various logistics of internal and external workshops, programs and meetings, including but not limited to the site/catering/audio-visual reservations, marketing and promotion of offerings such as trainings, workshops, and special events.
    • Organize, submit and track all expenses related to diversity & inclusion programs, events, sponsorships, meetings, etc.
    • Provide support to the D&I team in tracking actual to budgeted totals for diversity & inclusion accounts.  
    • Maintain and update computerized diversity & inclusion databases and programs.
    • Other related tasks as required and assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS (EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES):

    • Bachelor’s degree required
    • Minimum of two years related experience in a law firm, government agency, or professional services organization desired
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Very strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel, familiarity with Power BI a plus.
    • Strong service orientation and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers; attorneys; office, firm and practice management; and outside business partners
    • Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure
    • Ability to manage multiple projects with specific deadlines and adjust to changing priorities in a professional manner

    JOB REQUIREMENTS

     

    • Minimum supervisory experience of 3 years required
    • Prior experience in luxury hotels or resorts a plus but not a must
    • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
    • High level of attention to detail
    • Ability to work with computers – have basic knowledge of hotel system computer
    • Flexible with different shifts  
    • Be able to communicate in basic English effectively with others
    • Requires standing for extended periods, walking, pushing, kneeling or crouching
    • Must be able to reach overhead and below the knees; including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
    • Able to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 30 pounds without assistance.
