    Small east valley law firm is seeking a paralegal to assist with ongoing civil matters, including litigation. The firm is primarily a consumer law firm, assisting consumers in the areas of real estate, contracts, bankruptcy, and lemon law issues, as well as assisting clients with personal injury matters and estate planning. We are seeking an outstanding individual who possesses compassion and empathy, as well as initiative, to assist with the variety of ongoing cases, and assist in general office duties. The ideal candidate must be highly organized; possess excellent verbal and written communication skills; demonstrate excellent attention to detail and have compassion and empathy for the clients. We are a small firm and work closely as a team, so being a team player is vital. However, the ideal candidate must also be able to work independently, take the initiative and be proactive on assigned files, and manage assigned cases without constant supervision (although attorneys have an open door policy on any questions or issues). Spanish speaking is a definite plus, but is not necessary.

    Some duties include:

    Assist attorneys with all aspects of litigation cases including: preparation of pleadings (in partnership with the attorneys), generate subpoenas, monitor discovery requests and filing documents with courts, calendaring appropriate case deadlines (knowledge of Turbo Court and ECR, as well as familiarity with the Arizona Rules of Civil Procedure, are important);

    Must be able to identify inconsistencies which would require further investigation (the ability to read and analyze material, research (both legal and non-legal) skills, and proofreading skills are critical);

    Keep electronic case files organized and save documents to electronic file in such a way that others can locate the documents;

    Monitor case deadlines and court dates and be proactive in assisting the attorneys in preparation of those deadline/hearing dates;

    Work closely with clients to keep them updated as to the case status and assist with gathering the necessary case documents and assisting clients in answering discovery;

    Support trial proceedings by organizing evidence and exhibits; scheduling witnesses; ensuring that clients and witnesses arrive as scheduled;

    Track billable time and generate case status reports (although there are no set billable time requirements);

    Answering phone calls and scheduling appointments; and

    Assist with general office duties, including scanning and preparation of engagement letters, when necessary.

    This is NOT a remote position and in-person attendance is necessary. The firm operates in a relaxed and business casual environment, with no overtime and no weekend time. When you leave at 4:30, your time is your own. The firm also operates on a 32-hour work with one dedicated weekday off each week. We are NOT looking for someone to just do data entry – we are looking for someone who is interested in becoming a vital member of a team. If you are interested in becoming that team member and possess great attention to detail and will work in partnership with the attorneys to create the best possible result for the client, we want to hear from you. Please be outgoing, compassionate, and a critical thinker.

    Hours are 8:30 to 4:30. Please forward your resume and a cover letter with your salary requirements. PLEASE, NO PHONE CALLS.
