Job Title: Legal Assistant – Consumer Debt Collection

Our team is committed to maintaining compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations, including the FDCPA, Regulation F, and Indiana consumer collection laws. We are currently seeking a detail-oriented and organized Legal Assistant to join our growing team.
Job Summary: The Legal Assistant will support attorneys and other legal staff by managing case files, preparing and filing legal documents, maintaining accurate records, and communicating with courts, clients, and consumers. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in a legal or collections setting and a strong understanding of the litigation process and regulatory compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft and prepare legal documents, including summonses, complaints, default judgments, motions, and discovery requests.
- E-file documents with Indiana courts using Odyssey or other electronic filing systems.
- Manage and organize case files and maintain document management systems.
- Track case progress, deadlines, court dates, and filing requirements.
- Communicate professionally with consumers, clients, court staff, and internal team members.
- Ensure compliance with the FDCPA, Regulation F, FCRA, GLBA, and Indiana-specific collection laws.
- Assist attorneys with trial preparation and case management.
- Monitor incoming correspondence (physical mail, emails, and faxes) and route appropriately.
- Maintain confidentiality and data security protocols.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree or paralegal certificate preferred.
- Prior experience in a law office or collections firm (1–2 years preferred).
- Familiarity with consumer debt collection laws and court procedures in Indiana.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal case management software.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Comfortable working with sensitive or confidential information.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus but not required.
