Responsibilities: • Perform administrative duties such as answering phone calls and keeping our case filing system organized so all documents are readily accessible • Coordinate law office activity, including the drafting subpoenas and coordinating with process servers • Help lawyers prepare for trial by preparing and organizing exhibits, assisting with client meetings, filing motions, conducting research on legal articles, and organizing and coordinating witnesses • Prepare legal documents, correspondence, and pleadings such as complaints, interrogatories, subpoenas, deposition notices, pretrial orders, legal briefs, and affidavits, under the supervision of a lawyer • Gather information about legal issues from the client in interviews • Manage your time to ensure that billable hour targets (120 per month) are met or exceeded • Communicate with clients, experts, and other parties to provide updates and gather information; answer basic questions about the status of the case • Monitor case progress, deadlines, and important time frames/milestones • Draft documents, indexes, and chronologies; prepare marital settlement agreements; draft pleadings, motions, and court documents; fill out legal forms; write reports, etc. • Help attorneys prepare cases for mediations/hearings/trials • Manage discovery: prepare and organize discovery and responses to discovery demands • Research laws and judicial decisions about current as well as past cases • Assist attorneys in the courtroom as needed • Enter billable and non-billable time in the case management system contemporaneously Qualifications: • 3+ years of legal service experience under an attorney or lawyer in a law firm setting • Candidates must have completed an ABA-approved paralegal certificate program such as an Associate’s degree or proprietary school program in paralegal studies, Bachelor’s degree preferred • Excellent organizational skills, and time-management skills • Talented communicator and writer • Strong preference for candidates who have completed a paralegal professional certification or have an advanced paralegal education • A Paralegal will have completed a course of study offered by a college or university, especially for Paralegals, and will possess a certification as a trained Paralegal • A Paralegal should have experience in a law firm. Experience as a legal secretary or legal assistant is especially pertinent, and candidates with this background will be given preference Additionally, you must possess the following skills: • Ability to multitask • Excellent communication skills, both oral and in writing • People Skills/Customer Service — A Legal Assistant should have excellent people skills with the confidence to address initial client complaints and soothe angry clients • Excellent Organizational Skills • Time Management • Ability to work in a team with Legal Assistants and Attorneys Compensation: $64,000 - $90,000 yearly based on experience
