    JOB TITLE: Finance Controller

    The Finance Controller will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing, and controlling all financial-related activities of the company. This will include direct responsibility for accounting, finance, forecasting, strategic planning, job costing, legal, property management, and corporate deal analysis and negotiations. The Controller will lead a small accounting department and work directly with the General Manager to inform the Executive Leadership on all financial matters.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Tax direction/planning for Nationwide sales market

    • Create systems for tracking revenue/expenses and use data analysis to identify trends and create efficiencies.

    • Present profitability analyses on upcoming projects and ventures to company executives

    • Understand opportunities for tax savings/treatment – depreciation, interest, capital investments.

    • Provides leadership in the development for the continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives.

    • Responsible for timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends and forecasts.

    • Take hands-on lead position of developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive job cost system.

    • Directs and oversees all aspects of the Finance & Accounting functions of the organization such as maintaining banking relationships, coordinating annual certified audits, including preparation of all schedules for both the financials and tax returns

    • Evaluates and advises on the impact of long-range planning, introduction of new programs/ strategies and regulatory action.

    • Evaluates, designs, implements, and monitors internal financial controls, accounting processes and policies for efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and accuracy

    • Provide Executive Leadership with advice on the financial implications of business activities.

    • Manage processes for financial forecasting, budgets and consolidation and reporting to the Company.

    • Supervision of the credit and collection functions

    • Provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities.

    • Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.

    • Property refinancing – assist and provide direction to Executive Leadership with tracking loan maturities and review proposed refinance options and assist with loan closings

    • Asset sales – assist and provide direction to Executive Leadership with sales, BOV, sales proceeds, tax implications.

    • Tracking of annual cash flow distributions from portfolio properties.

    • Partnership agreements – review partnership documents for potential tax issues/opportunities.

    • Assist in the review and approval of prospective projects plan of financing Personal conduct that reflects well on the company and supports our personal conduct policy Perform all duties consistent with company’s overall policies as stated on our Company Handbook.

    ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS FUNCTIONAL

    • Strong financial background with knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Financial reporting.

    • Knowledge of international, national and local shipping rules and regulations for retail industry.

    • Previous experience creating and developing effective financial standards.

    • Word, PowerPoint, Excel, email, website software with an aptitude to learning new programs.

    • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow complex written and verbal instructions.

    • Proven ability to set and achieve department and organizational goals.

    • Desire and ability to determine, foster and develop the best qualities and contributions of department personnel.

     

    EXPERIENCE

    At least 5 years of experience in an accounting role.

    Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

    Master’s degree in related field or MBA EXPERIENCE

    Significant experience working in the retail industry with international shipping.
