You’ll not only get reliable after-school pay, but also build leadership skills, strengthen your resume, and make a real impact in your neighborhood.
Helpers will gain experience in real-world environmental work, campaign strategy, and community accountability; all while helping set a new standard for what youth leadership looks like in New York City.

Preferred (not required): Can ride a bike proficiently to support certain cleaning and outreach activities

Curb and sort trash, recycling, and compost at homes and block fronts
Work independently across assigned areas in Central Brooklyn (As close to home as possible)
Assist with snow removal when out of school
Optional Volunteer Activities (Earn Service Hours):
As part of the #EliminateDirtyStreets campaign, students can take on meaningful roles across our community action and media production team, such as:
Public Clean-Up Projects: Join team-led clean-ups in high-need areas to directly improve neighborhood conditions.
Media Production Roles: Contribute to campaign content by serving as a videographer, photographer, editor, or on-site reporter to capture and share clean-up efforts.
Creative & Social Media Team: Draft posts, design graphics, and develop messaging that spreads awareness of the Foot Soldiers mission.
Community Engagement Team: Help with outreach by distributing flyers, talking with local residents, and representing the campaign at events.
Planning & Leadership Workshops: Attend Wednesday sessions (4:30–6:00 pm) to brainstorm strategies, plan future clean-ups, and guide community engagement efforts.
SERVICE HOURS VERIFICATION Students who participate in optional volunteer activities will receive officially tracked and documented service hours that can be applied toward school or program requirements. Foot Soldiers will provide verification letters upon request or at the end of employment.
LEGAL DISCLAIMER
Participation in volunteer activities is completely optional and not a condition of paid employment. These activities are intended to give students opportunities to develop soft skills, gain leadership experience, and contribute to Foot Soldiers’ civic mission through outreach, content creation, and community events. All volunteer activities are unpaid, educational, and community-building in nature and are tracked for official community service hours documentation.
