About Carbon Reform:
Carbon Reform is a rapidly growing climate tech company redefining how commercial buildings approach HVAC efficiency, air quality, and decarbonization. Our retrofit technology reduces CO₂, enhances indoor air quality, and slashes HVAC energy consumption—without compromising on occupant comfort or infrastructure limitations. We're on a mission to decarbonize the built environment, and we're seeking passionate individuals ready to make an impact.
Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced HVAC Journeyman, Technician, Installer or Fabricator with a background in commercial mechanical, HVAC equipment fabrication, installation and repair. The ideal candidate should be able to design, fabricate, install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems with minimal guidance and oversight. In addition, they should have a track record of working with new technology, and have a creative, iterative mindset—comfortable testing new ideas, learning from failures, and moving forward quickly. The role will include shop fabrication and prototyping of unique, proprietary components, subassemblies and complete systems. A curious and creative mindset combined with a sound understanding of mechanical system design and operation will be beneficial as you develop new products through iterative prototyping and testing. Field service and travel to customer-facing jobsite visits—typically at large facilities and within mechanical rooms—are an integral part of the estimating, installation, and commissioning process managed by this role.
This is a part-time position, beginning at 20 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply expert knowledge of commercial HVAC systems in various installation, repair, and maintenance projects, focusing on energy-efficient and indoor air quality solutions
- Apply a broad knowledge base of all types of commercial mechanical systems, especially air-side products, economizers, energy recovery equipment and ventilation control strategies
- Perform regular maintenance on our HVAC-connected products and platforms to ensure optimal performance
- Assist in the planning, designing, and implementation of the Carbon Capsule within existing and new installations
- Provide estimates of materials required and ensure appropriate inventory for Carbon Capsule maintenance and installation
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, senior leadership, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget
- Read blueprints, floor plans, and wiring diagrams related to HVAC systems and Carbon Capsule integration
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with customers and their representatives, providing ongoing support and education on Carbon Capsule systems
- Use data and customer feedback to improve product designs and installation processes
- Safely operate company vehicles, machinery, and equipment, adhering to all safety protocols and guidelines
- Identify situations that require escalation to supervisors or managers for guidance or additional support
- Participate in all required safety training and actively carry all state or national required licensing
Qualifications:
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional HVAC certification or degree preferred
- At least 4 years of hands-on experience in the HVAC industry
- Experience servicing, fabricating and/or installing HVAC systems in commercial buildings is a must
- Familiarity with DDC systems and components is required, experience with a wide variety of front ends, PLCs and controls languages is a plus
- Current US driver's license and clean driving record
- Strong knowledge of electrical wiring, low voltage controls systems and installation
- Experience working with commercial Building Management Systems
- Experience with DOAS HVAC systems and carbon capture technologies is a plus
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more
- Capability to stand, crawl, sit, and squat for extended periods of time
- Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Must be able to work independently in the field and be responsible for a company vehicle at jobsites
Preferred
- Experience with custom HVAC system fabrication or prototyping, particularly in R&D or climate tech environments
- Familiarity with carbon capture technologies, energy recovery ventilators (ERVs), or other advanced air quality systems
- Demonstrated ability to work on retrofit installations in existing commercial buildings with varying infrastructure constraints
- Prior experience collaborating cross-functionally with engineering and product development teams to iterate on mechanical systems or prototypes
