    Maumee Valley Country Day School is seeking a patient, engaging, and nurturing educator to introduce young learners to the Spanish language through interactive, play-based instruction while fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment. A good candidate has experience working with early childhood or elementary-aged students, a strong foundation in Spanish language and culture, and the ability to design creative, age-appropriate lessons that promote language acquisition through songs, stories, movement, and hands-on activities. They demonstrate excellent classroom management skills, communicate effectively with students and families, and are committed to supporting diverse learning styles while cultivating curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning in every child.

    This position reports to the Head of Lower School and collaborates closely with the World Language Department. As a part-time employee, the position offers a flexible schedule and summers off.

    Key Responsibilities and Duties:

    Teach beginning level Spanish with particular focus on culture, communication, and vocabulary development

    Make learning authentic and relevant by making connections to real audiences and other disciplines

    Implement a variety of methods and approaches in the classroom to deliver a personalized and experiential learning experience for all students

    Assess curricular needs and modify curriculum following a backward design model

    Participate in ongoing professional growth

    Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, administrators and other professionals on a regular basis

    Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment

    Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community

    Participate in the life of the school beyond the classroom

    Meet performance goals established as part of the annual performance planning process or as the result of organizational planning

    Actively engage in personal and professional work in support of the school’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives

    Works independently with minimum supervision

    Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor

    Skills and Competencies:

    Experience with elementary or early childhood language instruction.

    Familiarity with immersion or exploratory language programs.

    Creativity, flexibility, and enthusiasm for working with young learners.

    Enjoys working with children and adolescents

    Fluency in Spanish

    Proficient in the structure and content of the Spanish language

    Curriculum design experience

    Credentials:

    Bachelors degree required, Masters preferred

    Minimum of 3 years experience teaching Spanish preferred

    Thorough familiarity with Spanish speaking cultures, including customs, music, food, celebrations, arts, etc.

    Ability to work within a diverse community that includes a number of international students

    Faculty: Must be willing and able to secure an Ohio Permanent Non-Tax certificate or Professional Teaching license. The school will support you in obtaining this once hired. However, it must be secured within the first six months of employment for compliance purposes.
