    Overview: The Hudson School seeks a passionate and skilled art teacher to join our middle school and inspire students in grades 5-8. This position covers 12 class periods per week, Monday-Wednesday, for the 26-27 school year.

    Responsibilities: The Middle School Art Teacher will plan and deliver engaging visual arts instruction that nurtures students' creative expression, technical skills, and appreciation for art history and culture. The ideal candidate brings enthusiasm for working with students ages 10-14 and a commitment to inclusive, student-centered teaching. All faculty members prepare detailed reports evaluating student progress each semester and participate in the academic life of the school.

    A successful candidate will:

    • Create a classroom environment that encourages experimentation, risk-taking, and artistic growth
    • Introduce students to art history, diverse artistic traditions, and contemporary artists from a variety of cultural backgrounds
    • Assess student work through formative and summative methods, providing constructive, meaningful feedback
    • Maintain an organized studio space, manage art supplies and inventory, and ensure the safe use of materials and tools
    • Collaborate with fellow teachers on cross-curricular projects and school-wide events such as art shows and exhibitions
    • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and classroom activities

    Qualifications:

    • A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
    • Three years of classroom teaching experience (middle school preferred)
    • Preferred background in organizing student exhibitions or community art events

    Details: This part-time, in-person position begins in the 2026-27 academic year. The position pays $55 per 40-minute class period taught. This position is not eligible for benefits. Applicants must commute to Hoboken. If asked to interview, you will need to supply three professional references.

    Those candidates who are also interested in teaching Upper School Ceramics may apply for both positions as the class periods do not conflict. The schedule can be discussed during the interview.
