Part-Time Pet Sitter & Dog Walker — Elk Grove

A rewarding opportunity for college students with room in their schedule and a love for animals.

Some of your best workday greetings could come with wagging tails and happy purrs. At Karla's Pet Care, you'll visit pets in their own homes, keep their routines on track, and give their families peace of mind.

We've served Elk Grove since 2004, and we're adding dependable, caring people to our team. If you enjoy staying active, working independently, and making a difference for animals, we'd love to hear from you.

Professional pet care experience isn't required. We provide paid, hands-on training.

How This Job Fits Your Schedule

This position can work well alongside online classes or a college schedule with consistent openings. We plan around your established availability, and our team counts on you to reliably cover your assigned visits.

Applicants must be available for at least two of these time blocks:

    • Morning: 7:00 AM–10:00 AM
    • Midday: 10:00 AM–2:00 PM
    • Afternoon and evening: 4:00 PM–9:00 PM

Weekend and holiday availability is also required.

    A Typical Day

You'll drive between clients' homes throughout Elk Grove, caring for pets according to each household's instructions. Your responsibilities may include:

    • Taking dogs on walks and providing playtime and enrichment
    • Preparing meals, refreshing water, and administering medications as directed
    • Scooping litter boxes and cleaning up pet-related messes
    • Giving pets attention and helping them feel comfortable while their families are away
    • Taking photos and sending thoughtful visit updates through our app
    • Following home-access and security instructions carefully

Over time, you'll get to know the pets, their personalities, and the little details that make their visits special.

    What You Need to Bring

You must live within the city of Elk Grove and have your own reliable vehicle available for every scheduled shift.

    You'll also need to:

    • Be at least 18 years old
    • Hold a valid driver's license and maintain at least California's required automobile insurance
    • Be comfortable driving between appointments
    • Commit to a consistent, ongoing part-time schedule
    • Have availability during at least two time blocks, plus some weekends and holidays
    • Use own smartphone apps for scheduling, navigation, messaging, mileage tracking, and visit reports
    • Be willing and able to pass a background check

Applicants who live outside Elk Grove or do not have their own properly insured vehicle cannot be considered.

The Kind of Teammate We're Looking For

You follow through on commitments, notice details, and ask questions when instructions aren't clear. You can manage your time, communicate thoughtfully, and work on your own while staying connected with the team.

Most of all, you're patient and compassionate with pets of different ages, sizes, and personalities. Loving animals is a great start; dependable care is what makes this job work.

    What We Offer

    • Part-time scheduling around your established availability
    • Paid training and guidance from an experienced team
    • Mileage reimbursement between visits
    • Aflac supplemental insurance benefits
    • A 401(k) retirement savings program through Paychex
    • Opportunities to grow and take on additional responsibilities
    • Active, meaningful work that builds communication, time-management, and animal-care skills
