Responsibilities: Child Care & Safety • Provide attentive, individualized care based on each child's unique needs and abilities. • Maintain a safe and supportive environment at all times. • Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities. • Assist with personal care tasks as needed, including toileting, dressing, feeding, and hygiene routines. Development & Engagement • Implement age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate activities. • Encourage social, emotional, communication, and life skills development. • Support sensory play and sensory regulation strategies. • Assist with homework, educational activities, and therapeutic goals when appropriate. • Foster independence through positive reinforcement and encouragement. Communication Support • Utilize communication methods appropriate to the child, including: • AAC devices • PECS systems • Visual schedules • Sign language • Social stories • Follow guidance from parents and therapy professionals when applicable. • Maintain clear communication with families regarding the child's day, progress, and challenges. Behavioral Support • Implement positive behavior support strategies. • Remain calm and patient during periods of dysregulation or challenging behaviors. • Redirect behaviors appropriately while maintaining the child's dignity and emotional well-being. • Follow established behavior plans provided by parents or therapists. Household Support Related to Child Care • Prepare meals and snacks for the child. • Clean up child-related areas and activities. • Wash children's dishes and assist with children's laundry as requested. • Organize toys, learning materials, and sensory equipment. Qualifications: • Previous experience working with children with autism, special needs, developmental disabilities, or behavioral challenges preferred. • Experience as a nanny, childcare provider, teacher, paraprofessional, RBT, therapist assistant, camp counselor, or special education aide is highly valued. • Strong patience, empathy, and problem-solving skills. • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license. • Ability to pass a comprehensive background screening. • CPR and First Aid Certification preferred. • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Preferred Skills • Knowledge of autism spectrum disorder and neurodiversity-affirming practices. • Familiarity with sensory processing needs and sensory regulation techniques. • Experience using AAC devices, PECS, or visual communication systems. • Understanding of positive behavior support strategies. • Ability to collaborate with parents, therapists, and educational professionals. Compensation: $18 - $20 hourly
