    Job Description

    VOLUNTEER & OUTREACH COORDINATOR

    JOB DESCRIPTION 

    Part-time, Non-exempt

    Flexible Schedule

    ● 20-25 hours/week

    ● Remote work 10-15 hours/week - you pick your schedule and location. Remote work includes approximately 3 hours/week participating in scheduled Zoom meetings; usually weekday mornings

    ● Onsite work 10-15 hours/week. Onsite work includes leading the new Walk with Ease program starting in October on Thursday mornings (Pasadena-area), attending/leading other Village programs and events (usually weekday mornings and afternoons; greater Pasadena area), and representing Pasadena Village at community festivals (approximately 10 annually; usually Saturdays and/or Sundays; greater Pasadena area)

     

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    This new position is integral to achieving Pasadena Village’s newly adopted 2022-2025 Strategic Plan. You will work with Pasadena Village to:

    ● Allow older adults to fully engage in the community and maintain their inter-dependence

    ● Combat ageism and isolation by providing opportunities for leadership, engagement, and intergenerational interactions

    ● Combat isolation among older adults who are homebound, at risk of being isolated, or facing health, disability, housing, grief, and other age-related issues

     

    Volunteer Coordination

    With the Executive Director and Volunteer Coordinating Committee, develop, maintain and support a strong and engaged volunteer corps comprised of members and non-members to fulfill a broad array of volunteer and leadership positions within the Village that are key to successful program operations. 

    ● Match volunteers strengths, interests, abilities, and availability with the needs of older adults and the organization

    ● Partner with Committee Chairs and other village leaders to identify volunteer and leadership needs

    ● Plan and implement recruitment, orientation, training, ongoing communication, cultivation, retention, and appreciation strategies with Executive Director

    ● Recruit new non-member volunteers, especially those under 55

    ● Coordinate with the Staying Connected volunteer team to maintain regular contact with 10-20 older adults. The Staying Connected volunteer team visits, calls, texts, and writes letters.

    ● Coordinate volunteer rides to medical appointments, errands, and events

    ● Work with the Executive Director, Program Manager, and Committee Chairs to identify potential leaders and develop pathways to leadership, especially for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) older adults

    ● Update the Volunteer Manual with the Executive Director and Committee Chairs, and work with them to offer effective volunteer training

    ● Work with the Executive Director and Program Manager to maintain regular communication with all volunteers

    ● Work with the Executive Director to identify, develop relationships with, and coordinate corporate volunteer opportunities

    ● Screen new volunteers and manage volunteer information. Create a system to track volunteer hours and report on their contributions. Work alongside Program Manager to maintain accurate data

     

    New Program Facilitation

    Walk With Ease is an evidence-based program that has been proven to help people with arthritis or other related conditions reduce pain, increase balance, strength and walking pace, and improve overall health. As a Walk With Ease Program Leader, you’ll help older adults build confidence in their ability to be physically active, and show them how they can make physical activity part of their everyday lives. You’ll learn the relationship between arthritis, exercise and pain, develop and help them implement personal walking plans with realistic goals.

    ● Become a Certified-Program Leader (training provided) and lead two six-week sessions of the Walk With Ease Program starting in October 2022

    ● Evaluate the program and collect participant feedback with the Executive Director

    ● Work with Executive Director, Committee Chairs, and other village leaders to identify needs for new programs to implement, especially intergenerational programs and collaborations with other organizations

     

    Outreach & Communications

    ● Attend other Village programs and events to develop relationships with Village members, become aware of their needs, and identify how they can help as volunteers and leaders

    ● Increase the visibility of Pasadena Village in the community and recruit volunteers by attending community events with the volunteer Outreach Team

     

    Qualifications

    ● Desire to work with older adults and volunteers of all ages

    ● Interest in leading a new walking program for a group of older people

    ● 1-3 years of experience working with volunteers 

    ● Creative problem solving

    ● Willingness to learn new skills

    ● Self-motivated with time management skills

    ● Well-organized and detail-oriented

    ● Empathy

    ● Must be able to move about indoor and outdoor areas; demonstrate stretches and walking exercises

    ● Computer Skills: fluency in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive), Microsoft (Excel and Word), and Zoom

    ● Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

    ● Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19

    ● Must pass background check

    ● Certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid (Pasadena Village will cover the cost of training and pay for your time to complete it)

    About this Position & Salary:

    This part-time, non-exempt position reports to the Executive Director. The pay rate for this opportunity will be no less than $20 per hour. Exact pay rate determined by experience and education related to the role.
