    Do you have experience simulating physics-based models and a strong understanding of thermodynamics and heat transfer? Do you long to apply your academic expertise to an impactful and engaging business problem that will reduce energy consumption of the building sector? Have you always wanted to apply your computer programming skills (or acquire new programming skills) to your thermodynamics and heat transfer abilities?

    WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

    The Thermodynamics Simulation Engineer will develop physics-based models of building and HVAC components, equipment, assemblies, systems, buildings, and campuses. They will standardize and validate these models for use by the PassiveLogic control engine for optimized autonomous control of buildings. This applied science/engineering role will work on energy equipment mathematical model development, thermo-physical systems modeling, and building simulation. They will participate in both product development and software development.

    The ideal candidate will:

    • Come from a variety of science and engineering backgrounds including physics, chemical engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, architectural engineering etc.
    • Have strong knowledge of thermodynamics and heat transfer
    • Have mathematical modeling experience and building physics-based models
    • Have interest in (or, better yet, experience with) computer programming and/or software development

    YOU MUST HAVE:

    • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics
    • Understanding of buildings, mechanical, and/or process control
    • Strong math, numerical methods, and analysis skills
    • Experience with mathematical modeling (e.g. Modelica, Matlab, Mathcad, Maple, Python, etc)

    YOU SHOULD HAVE:

    • Good analysis and problem-solving skills 
    • Experience with FEA modeling techniques
    • Strong programming skills (e.g. Matlab, C++, C, Swift, etc)
    • Fundamentals of building energy and/or HVAC systems

    IT IS HELPFUL TO HAVE:

    • Experience with EnergyPlus or other building simulation environments
    • Swift language development experience (S4TF even better)
    • Familiarity with heuristic, statistical, or machine learning methods
