Pastaworks is looking for fantastic people to join our retail staff at Providore Fine Foods in NE Portland. Do you love working with good food and incredible food products from around the world? As of May 2017, we are looking for full-time staff members, but are also open to hiring seasonal full-time staffers who morph to part-time in the fall when school is back in session. RETAIL STAFFER DESCRIPTION

A retail staffer at Pastaworks is first and foremost focused on helping customers: whether you're making recommendations about a cheese, slicing charcuterie to order, or walking out from behind the counter to make a recommendation about an olive oil. To succeed at this job, you need to be excited about interacting with customers, and helping them find everything they need to make a great meal, fill a picnic basket or what to have for lunch.

Pastaworks has a plethora of specialty products, and though it's a major plus to have knowledge about these products, it's not a requirement. What IS a requirement is a desire to learn, and to be passionate about quality food.

Working behind the retail counter at Pastaworks means cutting to order cheese, charcuterie and pasta, serving prepared foods, pulling espresso, stocking and facing shelves/cases, cashiering, cleaning -- and most importantly, interacting with customers. How you make their experience in the store special is what counts most to us.

QUALITIES + SKILLS DESIRED

• You have an outgoing, positive personality, and love interacting with people.

• You have a passion for good food, and can speak about food knowledgably.

• Our customers want to know how to use the products on our shelves, so cooking experience and knowledge (either personal or professional) is important.

• You have knowledge about cheese, charcuterie and/or wine. It's not a requirement, but very helpful to be successful at this job.

• You have previous experience working for a market, grocery store or restaurant. This is not a requirement, but a plus.

• You are in good health, and can take the physical rigors of a job which requires standing on your feet all day.

• You work quickly and thoroughly.

• Keeping things clean and organized matters to you.

• You like being a part of a team, and are committed to supporting and amicably working with other like-minded people.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• You have a flexible schedule and are able to work weekends and/or closing shifts until 10p.

• You are available to work over the holidays (Mid-November thru New Years). No vacations or time-off is allowed during this period.

PAY + BENEFITS:

• $13 an hour starting wage, with opportunity to increase wage after successful trial period.

• Benefits include PTO for full-time staffers, 20% discount off of products, free extruded pasta daily and other free food.
