Position Summary:
A Minneapolis-based law firm with offices in nationwide is seeking a Patent Docket Specialist to support all aspects of U.S. and international patent docketing within its practice. This is a fast-paced, detail-oriented role ideal for someone with a passion for IP and strong organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Docket new patent filings, office actions, and correspondence accurately.
- Review documents from the USPTO, WIPO, and foreign agents to identify deadlines.
- Maintain accurate records and conduct periodic audits in the IP docketing system.
- Track and follow up on upcoming deadlines with attorneys and client teams.
- Generate and distribute regular docket reports.
- Assist with file intake, transfers, and related updates to the database.
- Support overflow docketing and collaborate with attorneys and support staff as needed.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong organizational, proofreading, and time-management skills.
- Ability to handle a high volume of detailed tasks independently.
- Effective communication skills with internal teams and clients.
- Basic computer proficiency and data entry skills.
- Experience navigating USPTO, WIPO, and other patent-related platforms.
- Willingness to work overtime when needed.
Preferred:
- 2+ years of patent docketing experience in a law firm.
- Familiarity with docketing systems, especially Foundation IP.
- Understanding of U.S. and international patent laws and procedures.
