(local or international): No Description of internship project: The Global Health Security Partnership project, funded through the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, aims to strengthen health surveillance, laboratories, information systems, and emergency responsiveness in five priority countries: Senegal, Tanzania, Vietnam, India, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The intern will contribute to the coordination and support of partnership activities such as task and document management, development of communication materials, and maintenance of project management tools. The intern will support and facilitate efficient and clear communication across international teams of experts, and provide technical and strategic input to emerging project areas. The intern will have the opportunity to widen this scope depending on project activities, their skillset and their particular learning goals and objectives. Internship goals and learning objectives/benefit to the intern: The intern will gain hands-on exposure to and development of project coordination skills in a global organization. The skills will be developed through project activities including the use of project management tools, coordination of staff around deadlines/tasks, and general project organizational support. The intern will gain exposure to concepts and activities fundamental to strengthening health systems to prevent, detect, and respond to epidemics. The intern will gain increased knowledge about working in global health and first-hand experience in a headquarters environment. Intern will have exposure to multiple country projects and gain skills in cross cultural and cross programmatic areas including health information systems, laboratory immunization and surveillance. By the end of this internship, the intern will: Build ability to multi-task and work professionally with various colleagues and mentors both internal and external to PATH while developing a project coordination and organizational skill set. Develop communication, technical, and administrative skill set. Learn more about the fundamentals of public health. Gain and utilize experience in proposal writing and report preparation. Skills to be developed and/or expanded during internship: Project development, coordination, and organization Research and content gathering for communication pieces Cross-team communication Administrative skills Understanding of partnerships between public-nonprofit and corporate entities Core public health technical competencies (data use, management, and analysis) Proposed activities: Support and facilitate management of project documents, including maintenance of project SharePoint site Help develop workflow processes for improved team functioning Support coordination of project partners and new project developments Collaborate with Project Assistant and HQ Team on time-sensitive projects Work with communications officer to develop blog posts and other stories from the field Assist with project management and project tracking tools, including participation during biweekly phone calls with country offices Help with project management tools such as developing organizational charts, syncing SharePoint with OneNote, and maintaining team calendars Learning outcomes (how the Interns performance will be evaluated): The intern will be evaluated based on their contribution and completion of the proposed activities including blog post development, contributions to project management efforts, etc. The intern will meet with their supervisor regularly to review status and confirm alignment with learning goals and objectives Required skills and experience: Current enrollment in an academic degree program in public health or a related field of study Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written Experience using Microsoft Office, particularly SharePoint and OneNote Knowledge and interest in international development, global health, and project management Previous experience with geographic information systems, data management software, and/or web and graphics design are a plus Language skills in French or Vietnamese would be a plus *PATH does not provide a stipend to interns who are California residents. *All PATH internships are eligible for school credit.
