We have over 30 outpatient behavioral health locations nestled throughout our communities located in Kern County, Los Angeles County, Orange County, and San Diego County. OASIS is a volunteer mental health program providing outpatient services for individuals ages of 60 and over; with severe and persistent mental illness, with functional impairment in daily living due to mental health symptoms, and are currently homeless or at risk of homelessness. Our services include intensive case management, psychotherapy, skill-development groups, medication management, vocational linkage, temporary housing support, benefits processing, and outreach and engagement.

    Pathways is seeking an innovative and purpose driven individual to join our team as a Part-Time Benefits Specialist who will be primarily responsible for coordinating client applications and appeals for State and Federal benefits.

    ABOUT YOUR ROLE

    • Must have basic knowledge of Medi-Cal, Medicare, SSI, SSDI, and Social Security benefits and eligibility requirements as well as other available benefit resources• Responsible for educating clients and program staff on the eligibility requirements of available benefits • Assist clients in completing benefits application and assist in gathering supporting documentation necessary for application submission i.e. birth certificate, evidence of disability, identification cards etc. • Assist clients in the appeals process should their initial application be denied• Liaison between client/program staff and local benefits agencies• Attend all benefits education trainings and report any changes in guidelines back to clients and program level staff• Develop and maintain a tracking system to ensure 100% accuracy of all enrolled clients and their eligibility status• Assist clients in re-activating any benefits that have been suspended• Provide education and information to clients/program level staff on maintaining benefits while employed• Coordinate and maintain communication between clinical and administrative teams on benefits status of all enrolled clients • Maintain and ensures HIPAA, ethical standards and professional boundaries with all staff and clients• Other duties as assigned or necessary to support your department and/or the company

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS• Office Environment (not remote position). Requires extensive sitting with periodic standing and walking; • May be required to lift up to 20 pounds • Requires significant use of computer, tablet, phone and/or general office equipment • Needs adequate visual acuity, ability to grasp and handle objects• Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone

    DECISION MAKING RESPONSIBILITIES• Demonstrates ability to assess situations, considers alternatives, and chooses the appropriate course of action• Timely notification to manager of either emerging situations or those requiring follow-up attention
