    Pathways also know as College Community Services is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our team. The location is in Tehachpi, Kern County.

    SummaryResponsible for performing routine, specialized and complex medical assistant tasks related to the care and treatment of patients under the physician's written instruction, in an outpatient clinic setting under the general supervision of either a licensed physician, a physician assistant, or nurse practitioner.

    Essential Duties/Responsibilities

    Escorts patients to exam rooms; prepares patients for exam and treatment; takes and records vital signs and other necessary measurements; records chief complaint and allergies.

    Assists provider during psychiatric diagnostic interview and medication management services and acts as chaperon, as needed.

    Uses universal blood and body fluid precautions at all times and personal protective equipment as needed.

    Acts as liaison between provider and patient.

    Answers incoming telephone calls, documents all telephone encounters in the medical record.

    Prepares and processes necessary forms for referrals and eligibility.

    Cleans and disinfects equipment, exam rooms, and storage areas.

    Orders supplies and stocks patient care areas.

    Submits requisitions for needed maintenance and repairs.

    Obtains and organizes patient medical records; including lab, x-ray, referral, and other needed reports.

    Performs other related duties as required.

    Must be bilingual in Spanish

    Education/Licensing Requirements

    High School Diploma or equivalent

    Graduation from an accredited medical assisting program

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    Must possess and maintain the following clean and clear certifications

    American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card. Appointees not possessing the BLS card must successfully complete appropriate training and qualify for the BLS card within sixty (60) days of appointment or employment.

    Incumbents must obtain and maintain a clean and clear certification, as a Certified Medical Assistant, through the American Association of Medical Assistants, American Medical Technologists or California Certifying Board of Medical Assistants within one (1) year of employment.

    Proof of: valid California driver’s license and auto insurance, as well as proof of education are required. Prior behavioral health experience preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    Must work accurately with numbers.

    Knowledge and experience working with the severely and persistently mentally ill population.

    Excellent prioritization and organization skills, strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must.

    Intermediate PC skills required.

    Ability to effectively prioritize and manage time.

    Physical Requirements

    Office Environment (not remote position). Requires extensive sitting with periodic standing and walking.

    May be required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

    Requires significant use of computer, tablet, phone and/or general office equipment.

    Needs adequate visual acuity, ability to grasp and handle objects.

    Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone.

    Will require off-site travel 20% (local and out of state) - meeting, county and/or client needs.

    Will use personal car or vehicle as required for travel and/ or transportation.

    Will travel for meetings, training, etc. as needed. However, not remote position.
