Pathways is seeking an innovative and purpose driven individual to join our team as a Full-Time Billing Coordinator for our billing operations in San Diego.
SUMMARY
The Billing Coordinator oversees and is responsible for the billing operations at multiple sites or programs to include the billing for all clients, providing management with monthly reports summarizing billing, and participating as a member of the Internal Audit Committee.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Admits new clients to the State and/or County data entry system in accordance with contract standards
Ensures all charges for every client receiving services is entered properly
Records and files billing documentation
Provides a random technical audit of open charts and submits results to the Audit Committee monthly
Provides clinical staff with feedback regarding inappropriate or inaccurate completion of billing forms and documentation
Informs supervisor of on-going issues with billing documents
Maintain and ensures HIPAA, ethical standards and professional boundaries with all staff and clients
Accesses State and/or County systems for monthly financial reports as requested by supervisor
Responsible for recruitment, professional development, assignment of duties, approval of leave requests and expenses, performance management and personnel actions for support staff
May act as a back-up for administrative support in clinics served
May function as the petty cash custodian
Ensures supplies, equipment and materials needed for billing process are in stock
Other duties as assigned or necessary to support your department and/or the company
Provides training and direction to clinical and administrative staff across multiple sites regarding appropriate procedures for appropriate billing procedures
Works under the direct supervision of the Lead Billing Manager
EDUCATION/LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or an Associate’s degree and equivalent experience in billing government agencies for medical services
Proof of: valid CA driver’s license, valid auto insurance coverage as well as proof of education are required.
Prior behavioral health experience preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Two years-experience in a position with responsibility for billing medical services to government agencies
Strong data entry, billing reporting and detail orientation required
Must have leadership skills/experience and the ability to direct and train professionals at peer and senior levels
Intermediate level PC skills required
Strong clinical and interpersonal skills, ability to lead and direct work of others
Excellent prioritization and organization skills, strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills
Effectively use the Electronic Health Record system
Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs to the Program
Ability to effectively organize, prioritize and manage time
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Office Environment (not remote position). Requires extensive sitting with periodic standing and walking;
May be required to lift up to 20 pounds
Requires significant use of computer, tablet, phone and/or general office equipment
Needs adequate visual acuity, ability to grasp and handle objects
Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone
Will require off-site travel 20% - local and out of state (meeting, county and/or client needs)
Determines how to resolve billing policy and procedure problems either by working directly and unilaterally tosolve the problem or by engaging the appropriate Program Director, or the Regional Director or a member ofsenior management in the resolution process
Responsible for interviewing support staff and for recommending personnel actions such as salaryincreases and performance management actions
