    Job Description

     

    Tax Manager is responsible for managing the tax accounting staff and the tax planning, reporting, and compliance functions. Oversees the preparation of all tax filings and reporting in compliance with all required regulations. Evaluates the tax implications of company activities and develops strategies to minimize the tax obligations. Advises management on future changes to tax regulations and possible impact to the organization. PAUL TARPAULINS & MERCHANDISE, INC. RESERVES THE RIGHT TO ADD OR CHANGE DUTIES AT ANY TIME.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Manage a team of 2-3 employees and provide them with regular performance-related feedback, perform midyear performance reviews and perform annual performance reviews.
    • Ensure that all employees understand and comply with company policies, procedures and expectations.
    • Ability to manage a team, set expectations, and help improve processes.
    • Prepare and review federal, state and local tax documents.
    • Manage monthly and quarterly sales tax and prepayments.
    • File the company’s tax documents, including quarterly payments, extensions and tax returns.
    • Recommend new strategies based on new taxation laws on the local, state or federal level.
    • Maintain legislative materials by reviewing, interpreting, and implementing new or revised laws.
    • Streamline procedures and offer recommendations on how the tax filing process can run more efficiently.
    • Assist with accounts receivable, accounts payable and special projects, as necessary.
    • Comply with relevant internal controls, policies and procedures.
    • Prepare, examine, or analyze accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
    • Report to management regarding the finances of establishment.
    • Perform bookkeeping and compilation services as necessary.
    • Assist in daily, monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings.
    • Assist with annual audits, workers compensation and general liability insurance.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelors’ degree in Accounting, Finance or similar field; Master’s preferred
    • 5+ years of experience as a Tax Accountant, Senior Tax Accountant or similar environment.
    • CPA certification preferred
    • 3+ years of management experience
    • 3+ years of experience with Microsoft Dynamics Navision or similar (i.e. Oracle)

    SKILLS:

    • Proficient in the use of a personal computer and Microsoft office (Word, Excel etc.)
    • Proficient in the use of MS Excel (pivot tables, data import/export, simple macros, v-lookup, etc.)
    • Proficient in data management
    • Knowledge of US GAAP
    • Ability to take initiative and problem solve.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent attention to detail.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Required to sit for long periods of time.
    • Occasionally required to walk.
    • Required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
    • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.
    • Required to talk or hear.
    • Occasionally required to bend, lift or climb.
    • Occasionally required to lift light weights (less than 25 pounds).
    • Finger dexterity required.
    • Hand coordination required.
    • Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust or focus.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    • Exposure to office temperature environment.
    • The noise level in the work environment usually is low.
