As part of the IS Department, the Knowledge Management (“KM”) Specialist
works in concert with the KM Technology Manager and the Director of
Knowledge Services, to assist in firm knowledge sharing efforts both
internally with lawyers and externally with clients. To this end, the KM
Specialist is engaged in the maintenance and administration of legal
practice management tools, SharePoint project sites and the firm’s
extranet, Client Connect.
Responsibilities
- Support KM technology projects by assisting in the establishment of
project plans, developing SharePoint sites to track progress and
post documents and maintain detailed meeting notes. Support the KM
Technology Manager with the implementation and maintenance of the
Firm’s legal technology tools as required.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of the SydneyPlus
Library Catalog portal. This includes continually evaluating the
resources, design and functioning of the portal.
- Serve as Knowledge Services team expert on our internal SharePoint
team site. Continually work to improve the design and functioning of
the site including suggestions for content and navigation. Post
appropriate material to the Knowledge Services pages to keep the
team current on KM technology initiatives.
- Investigate how new technologies might assist lawyers by driving
efficiency, simplifying workflow and improving the speed or accuracy
by which a task might be accomplished.
- Serves as the primary liaison with KM technology vendors
as required. Collaborate with internal IT team members to
troubleshoot issues with vendors when necessary. Maintain
documentation including policies and procedures governing
external resources. Keep team members abreast as to upcoming changes
and upgrades and the impact that these will have on
daily activities.
- Provides ongoing individual and group attorney and staff training
including the development of training materials on KM technology.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree required and a minimum of two years of relevant
legal experience is preferred.
- Basic understanding of information collection and retrieval
including experience with document management systems and database
searching
- Basic understanding of SharePoint and web design.
- Ability to learn new applications and technologies, relevant to KM,
in a timely fashion and to apply such applications and technologies
to the PW environment
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Highly developed organizational ability, sound judgment and
attention to detail
- Self-starter with a strong ability to effectively manage multiple
projects concurrently and a flexibility and willingness to work
extended hours as required.
- Strong sense of urgency and professional dedication.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, SharePoint and HTML.
