  • Responsibilities

    Head of Lab Operations

     

    The Head of Laboratory Operations will be responsible for implementing and maintaining operational excellence across all laboratories. This person will be an integral element in the high-throughput testing and effective production of high-quality data at scale to use in machine learning. They are responsible for consistently achieving safe, high-quality, and efficient operations across all production and development laboratories.

    This person will collaborate with cross-functional teams, focusing on process standardization and continuous improvement, to implement tools and workflows for laboratory inventory, sample management, purchase and process tracking, EH&S policies, and equipment maintenance. They will sustain the day-to-day functions of laboratories with inventory stocking, reagent ordering, and lab cleanliness and organization. They are also responsible for managing vendor relationships to keep abreast of supply chain quality issues.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • B.S./M.S. in biological science or scientific discipline

    • 5+ years of relevant work experiencein laboratory management and high-throughput screening

    • Significant experience managing inventory systems for laboratory supplies, reagents, chemicals and cell lines

    • Experience managing all purchase requisitions and purchase orders and training new users on the system and process

    • Experience with developing and managing EH&S policies

    • Demonstrated track record of identifying and implementing process improvements for laboratory operations

    • Experience with training new and current laboratory personnel in laboratory procedures and protocols

    • Demonstrated ability to implement and manage laboratory best practices and safety programs

    • Expertise in overseeing lab equipment QC, calibration, and maintenance

    • Familiarity with monitoring and analyzing laboratory workflows and inventory consumption to understand procurement needs, lead forecast planning, purchasing efforts for consumables, reagents, and capital equipment

    • Experience managing supplier relationships, negotiate prices and discounts

    • Experience with designing, coordinating, and improving laboratory schedules and logistics

    • Must be highly collaborative, team-oriented, and an effective communicator

     

    Nice to Have

    • Proven experience managing small teams

    • Experience with implementing and operating ERP procurement and inventory modules

    • Expertise generating process metrics for laboratory operations

    • Experience working with large-scale automation systems

    • Familiarity with 5S methodology

    • Familiarity operating under a SOX / internal control financial compliant environment
