    JOB SUMMARY

    The PAVING ESTIMATOR will be responsible for estimating and preconstruction, cross-functional coordination, project review and continuous improvement and performs other essential duties as assigned.

    JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. ESTIMATING AND PRECONSTRUCTION – vital in pre-construction and handoff phases, analyze drawings, specifications, proposals, and related documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates, evaluate historical data and industry trends to inform estimates and identify potential cost-saving strategies, obtain accurate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors for materials, labor, and equipment, develop itemized cost breakdowns and bid packages for review and submission, apply consistent markup for overhead and profit in accordance with company policy, attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and perform quantity take-offs, stay current with local codes, material innovations, and market pricing, produce accurate, competitive and timely estimates for paving and civil projects.

    2. CROSS-FUNCTIONAL COORDINATION - collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and foremen to ensure continuity from estimate to execution, assist with project handoff, including preparation of job packets and cost documentation, support procurement and scheduling efforts during project startup, interface with customers and stakeholders during pre-construction and debrief phases.

    3. PROJECT REVIEW AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT - track project outcomes to compare estimated versus actual costs, analyze discrepancies and recommend improvements to cost-estimating procedures, maintain organized records of estimates, assumptions, and supporting data, participate in post-job reviews and lessons learned.

    4. PERFORMS OTHER ESSENTIAL DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    · Knowledge of technical acumen in construction.

    · Knowledge of paving materials means and methods, and relevant construction equipment.

    · Knowledge of advanced math.

    · Knowledge of local codes, market pricing and material innovations.

    · Ability to communicate clearly with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders

    · Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specs and contracts.

    · Ability to apply advanced math and analytics to estimation.

    · Skilled in cost estimation analytics.

    · Skilled in the proficient use of estimating and takeoff software. (Ie. Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, HCSS, or equivalent)

    · Skilled in the proficient use of Microsoft Office. (Excel, Word, Outlook)

    · Skilled in written and oral communication.

    · Skilled in time management and organization.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    High school diploma or equivalent

    Three years of paving or civil engineering experience in estimating or project management

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or related field.

    OSHA 10 or 30 certification

    Bilingual (English/Spanish)

    SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

    Must pass a criminal background check

    Must have a valid driver’s license

    Must have and maintain a good driving record

    Must pass preemployment drug screening

    Must be able to walk project sites, including uneven terrain and outdoor environments, occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs.), standing, sitting, and use of computer/office tools.

    Must be able to travel to job sites and pre-bid meetings as required.

    WORK CONDITIONS:

    Works in a heated and cooled office environment and works outside in all types of weather and may be exposed to extreme heat and cold, rain, snow, sun, noise and dust.

    This is a safety sensitive position due to driving requirements or job responsibilities whole include safety-sensitive tasks that require performing duties fraught with risk of injury to others where even a momentary lapse of attention may have grave and disastrous consequences.
