Job Summary
We are seeking a Part time Director of Finance and Grants based in DC to join our team. In this role, you will will manage all grants, accounts receivables, bookkeeping, revenue cycle and financial accounting practices across all departments and the organization, maintaining accurate records of incoming and outgoing payments, payroll, and other essential accounting tasks. The ideal candidate is highly organized with strong mathematical skills and previous experience in healthcare grants, bookkeeping, and accounting.
Responsibilities
Communicate with vendors and suppliers to ensure accuracy of charges and payments
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and developments
Enter financial data and transactions
Analyze budgets and other financial information
Reconcile bank statements
Prepare financial reports and statements
Verify the accuracy of transactions that have been entered
Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
Responsible for the financial planning, development and fiscal implementation of all grant programs, including preparing budgets, expenditure reports, invoices, and researching funding opportunities, supervising fiscal implementation, monitoring expenditures, identifying support agencies, tracking results, and analyzing financial data.
Provides monthly and quarterly financial reports and budgets to CEO, Board of Directors and external grant managers/financial points of contacts.
Supports department leaders with financial management of grant funds to include profit and loss statements and budget preparations.
Participate in annual financial audit and budget preparation meetings and provides financial reports and data to the CPA for taxes and Auditor.
Utilizes QuickBooks by developing, recording and tracking expenses in alignment with agency budget. Collaborate with the development and operations team to create and maintain systems and processes for applying for, managing, and overseeing reporting for all private and federal grants.
Evaluate grants trends, and variances for validity, and potential impact and make recommendations to the COO and CEO.
Ensure that all grants transactions and accounting activities are properly documented
Support monthly financial closing and financial account reconciliation as it pertains to grant funds
Oversee grants accounts payable process and ensure spending follows internal controls
Creates systems and processes to track revenue and expenses.
Qualifications
Previous experience as an accountant, bookkeeper, or similar position
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
Good with spreadsheets, experienced in Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks, and basic accounting systems
Strong mathematical and analytical skills
Excellent attention to detail, time management, and communication skills
Preferred: Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance; or MBA is preferred
At least 2 years of supervisory experience and experience in finance, accounting, or grants management
In-depth knowledge of accounting, financial reporting, and generally accepted accounting principles and practices and risk management, federal regulations and compliance for grants and contracts
Knowledge of DC Grants/Vendor Portal landscape and working with multiple organization structures are preferred
Proven experience in the implementation of operational best practices
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to interact with all levels of staff and to explain accounting terms to non-accountants, experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management and Board
Experience in grants management and reporting on government, corporate, and foundation grants to funders and required external reporting
Technology-savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software and systems implementations; advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software
Outstanding analytic, organization and problem-solving skills for strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage federal grants and cooperative agreements, including overseeing post-award requirements such as monitoring, managing procurement activities, and preparing for audits.
