About Benchmark Utility Services
Benchmark Utility Services is a growing construction and utility infrastructure company operating across multiple states. We move fast, build strong teams, and take care of the people who power our work — in the field and in the office. If you're the kind of person who takes pride in getting things right and keeping things running, you'll fit in well here.
The Role
We're looking for a detail-oriented Payroll Clerk to join our payroll team and play a critical role in making sure our crews get paid accurately and on time, every pay cycle. You'll work closely with our Payroll Administrator, field supervisors, and HR to verify hours, process payroll data, and maintain clean records. This isn't a background role — accurate payroll is one of the most trust-critical functions in any construction company, and you'll own a meaningful piece of it.
What You'll Do
- Enter and verify payroll hours for field crews and office staff — accurately and on deadline, every time
- Review and reconcile timecards, flagging and resolving discrepancies with field supervisors
- Process regular, overtime, and special pay calculations in line with company policy
- Maintain organized, audit-ready payroll records and documentation
- Help ensure compliance with federal and state wage and hour requirements
- Support certified payroll reporting where applicable
- Serve as a bilingual resource for crew members with payroll questions
- Collaborate with HR on new hires, terminations, and status changes affecting pay
What We're Looking For
- 1–3 years of experience in payroll processing, timekeeping, data entry, or similar clerical work
- Experience with payroll software (ADP, Paycom, Paylocity, Sage, or similar)
- Bilingual in English and Spanish — written and spoken — required
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office Suite
- A natural double-checker — you don't submit until you've verified
- Cool under deadline pressure; you know how to prioritize when everything feels urgent
- High level of discretion — you understand that payroll data is sensitive and treat it accordingly
Bonus Points
- Experience in construction, field services, utilities, or multi-crew environments
- Familiarity with prevailing wage or certified payroll requirements
- FPC certification (Fundamental Payroll Certification) or working toward it
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or coursework in accounting/business a plus
Why Benchmark
- A stable, growing company with real career growth potential
- A team that values doing things the right way — no shortcuts
- Supportive management that invests in the people who show up and deliver
- A role where your accuracy and reliability are genuinely valued
