Payroll Coordinator/Accounting Generalist

Position Overview:
We are looking for an experienced and highly organized Payroll Coordinator/Accounting Generalist to maintain responsibility for ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll while also supporting general accounting functions. This role requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion. The ideal candidate will be versatile, adaptable, and able to balance payroll duties with day-to-day accounting responsibilities.
To be successful as a Payroll Coordinator/Accounting Generalist, you should be able to work independently, possess attention to details, work in a highly complex, demanding environment and have excellent communication and organizational skills.
Key Areas of Responsibilities:
Payroll
•Process bi-weekly payroll for all employees, ensuring compliance policies and legal requirements.
•Review and verify timecards, hours worked and pay adjustments.
•Maintain payroll records and employee data within the payroll/HRIS
•Administer wage garnishments, deductions, and benefits contributions
•Prepare payroll reports and reconcile payroll accounts
•Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, paychecks, and deductions
•Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage and hour laws
Accounting
•Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including invoice processing, expense reports, and payment reconciliation
•Post journal entries and maintain accurate general ledger records
•Support month-end and year-end close activities, including reconciliations and reporting
•Assist with preparation of financial statements, audits, and compliance filings
•Maintain accurate records of financial transactions and support budget tracking
Minimum Requirements:
•Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration; or 5-6 years of payroll experience in lieu of educational requirements
•Proficiency in Paycom or other HRIS systems
•Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks)
•Strong understanding of accounting functions and Payroll Laws
•Excellent attention to detail; Exceptional mathematical and calculation skills
•Practical experience with hourly, salaried and union payroll
•Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion
•Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
•Experience with MS Office suite, especially the use of Excel
•Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
Relevant certifications in Payroll or Accounting are a plus!
