Job Title: Payroll Technician II
Job Locations: Virginia Beach, VA 23456
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm
Job Duties:
• As directed, handle sensitive personnel issues and inquiries. Maintain high level of security relating to personnel information.
• Accountable for independently performing a wide variety of HRIS functions, audit transactions and specialized projects related to identifying and implementing quality control measures.
• Assist department management with special projects related to HRIS or other reporting or system implementations.
• Serve as subject matter expert and technical resource for HRIS operations and established processes. Train and assist lower level HRIS Technicians as needed.
Provide instruction/guidance and customer service to PALS for entering personnel transactions.
May conduct PALs training on changes to system workflows and processes.
• Perform such as personnel transactions related to new hires, promotions, career progressions, lateral transfers, merit increases, performance bonus/administrative increases, voluntary terminations and retirements; status change transactions related to work location, supervisor changes, leave without pay, FMLA, military leave and no/limited duty status; and disciplinary transactions related to suspensions, demotions and non-voluntary terminations.
• Review and audit personnel transactions and salary calculations processed by department Payroll and Leave Specialists (PALS) for compliance with applicable City Code, policies, processes, and procedures and resolve discrepancies as necessary. May manually process information and perform salary calculations for transactions that are not carried into the HRIS system through automated workflows.
• Assists supervisor in maintaining accountability of position control of budgeted FTEs. Process transactions related to the establishment, reclassification or cancellation of positions through the budget process.
• Assists supervisor in development of testing scenarios and identifying workflows necessary to implement quarterly HRIS patches. Act as lead in conducting tests and verifying workflows processes for patches and other implementations.
• Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs.
