    Peer Recovery Specialist – Addiction Medicine Clinic

    Location: Fairfax, VA
    Schedule: 40 hours per week

    About the Role

    Seeking a compassionate and dedicated Peer Recovery Specialist to join our Addiction Medicine Clinic (AMC). In this role, you will provide recovery-oriented support and guidance to individuals experiencing substance use disorders, including those facing substance use emergencies and co-occurring mental health challenges.

    As a valued member of a multidisciplinary treatment team, you will help individuals navigate services, develop recovery plans, build resilience, and achieve meaningful recovery goals. Services may be provided in clinic settings, the community, and justice-involved environments such as local jails.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide individual peer recovery support services to clients with substance use disorders.
    • Assist individuals in developing and maintaining personalized recovery plans.
    • Connect clients with community resources and support services.
    • Support clients in navigating treatment, recovery, and social service systems.
    • Collaborate with case managers, therapists, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
    • Partner with community organizations and CSB stakeholders to promote successful recovery outcomes.
    • Document services and client interactions accurately within the electronic health record (EHR) system.
    • Participate in treatment planning and team meetings.
    • Advocate for recovery-focused and person-centered care.

    Required Qualifications

    • Valid Driver's License.
    • One of the following credentials:
      • Registered Peer Recovery Specialist (RPRS) through the Virginia Board of Counseling; OR
      • Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) through the Virginia Certification Board; OR
      • Peer recovery certification through another IC&RC member board; OR
      • National Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (NCPRSS) through NAADAC.
    • Experience supporting individuals with substance use disorders.
    • Strong communication, advocacy, and relationship-building skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience working with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) programs.
    • Experience supporting individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions.
    • Familiarity with community-based behavioral health services.

    Physical Requirements

    This position may require:

    • Transporting clients in agency vehicles.
    • Observing, monitoring, and documenting client behaviors.
    • Performing CPR and First Aid when necessary.
    • Climbing stairs and lifting up to 20 pounds.
    • Participating in recreational and community-based activities.
    • Reviewing and completing clinical documentation and utilizing computer systems.
