We are seeking a passionate Peer Recovery Specialist to join our team and help make a difference in the lives of those in recovery.

    Job Overview: The Peer Recovery Specialist serves as a vital member of the treatment team, offering lived experience, mentorship, and recovery-focused guidance to individuals navigating substance use and co-occurring disorders. This role fosters hope, resilience, and empowerment through trauma-informed peer support, group facilitation, and navigation of resources. The Peer Recovery Specialist collaborates with clinical staff to ensure client-centered care that aligns with Joint Commission standards and promotes long-term wellness.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Build trusting relationships with clients by sharing lived experience and modeling recovery-oriented behaviors.

    Provide emotional support, encouragement, and accountability to clients in the early stages and throughout sustained recovery.

    Assist clients in identifying personal strengths, recovery goals, and barriers to progress.

    Co-facilitate structured peer-led groups focused on relapse prevention, wellness planning, and coping strategies.

    Lead activities that promote self-awareness, emotional regulation, and community connection.

    Adapt group content for telehealth delivery when applicable, ensuring accessibility and engagement.

    Guide clients in accessing treatment services, housing, employment, transportation, and community supports.

    Assist with appointment scheduling, referrals, and follow-up coordination.

    Educate clients on available recovery pathways, including 12-step, SMART Recovery, and harm reduction models.

    Support clients in developing individualized recovery plans that reflect their goals, values, and needs.

    Encourage use of coping tools, wellness routines, and crisis prevention strategies.

    Reinforce progress through motivational interviewing and strengths-based approaches.

    Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to share insights and advocate for client needs.

    Maintain open communication with counselors, case managers, and healthcare providers to ensure seamless coordination and effective care.

    Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards in all interactions.

    Accurately document client interactions, group participation, and progress notes in accordance with COMAR and Joint Commission standards.

    Complete required logs, incident reports, and house management records in a timely manner.

    Assist in maintaining a safe, structured, and recovery-oriented environment.

    Monitor facility cleanliness, safety, and adherence to house rules.

    Conduct room checks, curfew compliance, and conflict resolution as needed.

    Support clients in maintaining high standards of communal living and fostering respectful peer interactions.

    Qualifications

    Certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) or be eligible for certification within 6 months.

    Lived experience in recovery with a minimum of 2 years of sustained sobriety preferred.

    Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage diverse populations.

    Familiarity with trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and recovery models.

    Ability to document clearly and meet regulatory standards.

    Comfortable with telehealth platforms and virtual group facilitation (training provided if needed).
