    Job Summary

    Seeking a compassionate and motivated Peer Recovery Specialist to support individuals with substance use and/or mental health challenges. The Peer Recovery Specialist uses lived experience in recovery to provide mentorship, advocacy, and recovery-oriented support services that promote wellness, self-sufficiency, and community integration.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide peer-to-peer recovery support services to individuals receiving behavioral health services

    • Share lived recovery experience to inspire hope and promote engagement in services

    • Assist individuals in developing recovery goals, wellness plans, and coping strategies

    • Support individuals with navigating community resources, social services, and treatment options

    • Facilitate or co-facilitate recovery-focused groups and activities

    • Encourage self-advocacy, personal responsibility, and skill-building

    • Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with agency and regulatory standards

    • Collaborate with clinicians, case managers, and multidisciplinary teams

    • Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards at all times

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Lived experience with recovery from mental health and/or substance use challenges

    • Minimum of 1 year in sustained recovery (or as defined by state guidelines)

    • Peer Recovery Specialist Certification (VA) or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe

    • High school diploma or GED

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

    Preferred:

    • Experience working in behavioral health, social services, or community-based programs

    • Knowledge of local community resources in Virginia Beach

    • Bilingual skills a plus
