Job Summary:
The Peer Recovery Supporter provides non-clinical support to individuals in recovery from substance use or mental health disorders. Utilizing their own lived experience, they serve as a role model, mentor, and advocate, helping individuals build self-sufficiency, access resources, and work toward sustained recovery.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide emotional and social support to individuals in recovery through one-on-one or group sessions.
* Use lived experience (if necessary) to foster hope and motivation, demonstrating the possibility of successful recovery.
* Offer practical advice and coping strategies for managing triggers and maintaining sobriety.
* Be a role model for positive behavior and resilience, demonstrating commitment to recovery.
* Assist individuals in identifying and accessing local recovery resources, including treatment programs, housing, employment, and social services.
* Help individuals understand and access community support systems like 12-step programs, recovery meetings, and mental health services.
* Advocate for individuals in navigating healthcare and social service systems, ensuring their needs are met.
* Support individuals in setting recovery goals and developing personalized recovery plans.
* Encourage self-directed recovery by empowering individuals to take charge of their own recovery process.
* Help individuals assess their progress and adjust goals as needed.
* Provide educational materials and resources related to substance use disorders, mental health, recovery, and coping strategies.
* Engage in community outreach to raise awareness about recovery and reduce stigma associated with addiction and mental health issues.
* Work alongside counselors, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to provide holistic support to individuals in recovery.
* Attend regular team meetings, provide feedback on the progress of individuals in recovery, and suggest areas for improvement.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of interactions with individuals, including case notes, progress reports, and recovery plans.
* Ensure confidentiality and compliance with privacy regulations (such as HIPAA).
