    Job Description

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Part Time Evaluator – Externship Assistant will work closely with the Externship Team and Veterinary Technician students before and during their required clinical externships. They will assist in course instruction and student feedback in the Veterinary Technician Program as directed by the Clinical Coordinator and the department manager. The Externship Assistant may provide one-on-on support to include responses to student’s inbound academic inquiries using distance education technologies, including phone, email, SMS text messaging, discussion boards, grading, and portal messaging. Some work with Veterinary Assistant externship students may also be required. Administrative tasks may include calling potential externship sites and verifying information as well as reviewing externship related paperwork.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    • Objectively and accurately evaluate externship (clinical) skills according to established grading rubric and guidelines
    • Provide one – on –one support to their assigned externship students
    • Provide clear and effective feedback to students within established time frames
    • Respond to student’s questions in a timely manner
    • Complete the necessary steps to ensure that grades are properly recorded with the school
    • Provide regular updates to the Clinical Coordinator regarding student progress
    • Communicate clearly by phone and email with students as well as externship site supervisors.
    • Review paperwork for errors and communicate those errors to students.
    • Objectively evaluate student knowledge and convey appropriate feedback.
    • Review progression data to determine students' needs and provide data-driven interventions/outreach as needed

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

    EDUCATION: Must possess an Associate Degree from an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technician Program and must be a Credentialed (licensed/registered) Veterinary Technician (LVT, RVT, CVT).

    EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 2 years working as a Credentialed Veterinary Technician is required. Prior teaching experience preferred.

    COMPUTER SKILLS: Strong computer skills and access to a reliable computer and internet is essential

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Must have strong time management skills and be able to work with strict deadlines
    • Must be a team player
    • Works well under pressure & has good conflict resolution skills
    • Be detail oriented and be able to review documentation in a timely manner
